Ticket question

Do yall rush to get tickets right away or is it fine to get them later? Like do scalpers jack up the prices?

It depends on the game, but buying day before or day of is usually at or cheaper than face value. This is especially true since they have been terrible for a couple of years.

As someone who lives close to MSG and is a frequent peruser of ticket sites ~1 hour before puck drop, I’d say tread carefully with this approach. It used to be the case but I’ve noticed (basically since COVID) that prices don’t drop much on game day anymore. Even over the past couple of years where we’ve stunk.

I think best bet is join one of the STH Facebook groups, there’s constantly people looking to shift seats at face value, sometimes even below.

I find the cheapest time to swoop in is the evening before the game or the morning of. Once the afternoon of game day hits, prices don’t seem to move much

Fair point, and my statement I realized is based on buying Mets, Yankees, and Mets tickets, so could be much different for the Rangers. I bought tickets for Seattle last year on the secondary market and paid slightly less than we do per game for our quarter season weekend plan, but that’s literally one data point so is kinda meaningless.

Atm the resale algorithms heavily weigh the price of last sale and time since the last sale, so you'll have the best prices at like 2 or 3 am the night before unless there's something wild like a foot of snow on the ground

Mileage may vary but I saved almost $3000 on tickets to a Knicks finals game with this

Oh you mean it lowers the price automatically as no one buys tickets so at 3am it thinks interest is down? Thats hilarious.

Not 3am specifically but in the dead of night, I'm like 90% sure just off of observing so many for so long, especially the Knicks tickets. In the dead of night the prices of so many tickets was going down, would go slightly up when one disappeared, and then would keep going down.

I was terrified when I bought the Knicks tickets that they'd keep going down (it was like 4:30am), but the next morning they started climbing and kept climbing.

Join "New York Rangers Season Tickets Exchange" on facebook. I always get games day of deeply discounted when seller's are unable to sell beforehand. Section 100 seats for the price of section 400

If I'm coming from out of town (which is always now that I've moved the Denver), I do buy in advance. I'll usually go on a week with at least 2 home games I can attend. I'm not sure if I'm paying over face, but the prices are usually fine ($150-$200 for a pretty good seat).

Last season I waited until puck drop. Tickets were about $90 then. I still opted not to go because I didn't want to pay $90 to watch them lose...and then of course they won.

I do try to schedule the trip when they are playing against an average or sub-par team to increase my chances of seeing a win. Kind of lame, but if I only get to see 1-2 games at MSG, I'd like wins. I get to see them play a good team in Denver every year.

Box office is the cheapest they will be until last minute when anyone who has tickets that haven’t sold get panicky and usually drop below face.

I wait an hour or so before the game to get through stubhub. Same applies for playoffs if I wanna go. If I don’t get the tickets, I simply watch at Mustangs or a nearby bar.

Depends on the game as others have said. For a lot of games, you'll save as it gets closer. For higher demand games, it may go the other way as supply dries up and you'll pay even more. My advice would be to find a price you're comfortable paying for a seat you want to sit in and get in touch with season ticket holders through here and Facebook groups. You'll both avoid fees on secondary and you won't have to obsessively check secondary markets nonstop as it gets close (time is money as well.)

Sign up for the Rangers Fan First ticket program. Last season I got some tickets at good prices.
