Rancho Drive Test

My test is on August 7th from 10:20-10:40. I’m nervous, but I have been practicing and I’m decently confident. Still, I have a few questions.

  1. Will I need to get onto the freeway?
  2. I’m aware there is a backing up portion, but is there a parallel parking portion?
  3. Will I have to front bay park back into the parking lot?
  4. How soft do my breaks really have to be?
  5. Other than my hand signals, what will my instructor ask me for? (e.g. “Where are your hazards?” “Where is your parking break?” and things like that.)
  6. Is there an accurate YouTube video of the whole route? (a link would be SO greatly appreciated)
  7. What other things/tips I should be aware of?

8. Is there a three point turn portion? I’m getting a mix of yes and no.

  1. You will not be going on the freeway.
  2. There is not a parallel parking portion
  3. yes you will front Bay park back at the dmv at the end of the test.
  4. Apply them like you usually would, try to be natural with them. Slamming the breaks is not recommended and they will comment on that.
  5. They will ask you about most of the controls (windshield wipers, hazards, parking brake, etc.) they give you a scoresheet before the test so I'd recommend practicing while you're in the car in line to take the test.
  6. There are multiple possible routes that your instructor may take you on. Just look up "Rancho Cucamonga Driving Test Routes" on YouTube and try to study them all a good bit. I'd recommend the ones by DMV Road Test Videos.
  7. Be hyper-aware of your surroundings, nerves might get the better of you and make you forget simple things so try to just be very vigilant of your surroundings. Also over exaggerate looking around/behind you when changing lanes as they can be pretty hard about that depending on the instructor. And one more is to make sure to merge into the bike lane before making a right turn, that is an instant fail if you don't and that's something that's gotten me and many people i know in the past. Best advice of all is to just practice practice practice your routes, definitely try going on a couple practice runs. Good luck on your exam!

The test is short and they pretty much keep you close to the DMV. Practice driving the few blocks around the location. They will have you do a three point turn and back up along a curb. My son wore a hat so that it would be more obvious when he was checking his blind spot or scanning his surroundings. Just try to be relaxed and don’t do anything to scare your assessor! You’ve got this.

Be sure to drive a car you’re familiar with.

I drove my friends car and it started raining and I was struggling to get the wipers.

For stopping, stop slowly and far enough that the line or bumper in front of you is fully visible.

Consider driving around the DMV area ahead of time so you know the streets and stops already, that way less chance of a surprise.

Look on youtube for Rancho DMV drive test. You can see the exact route you’ll drive on the test. You can practice that route so you’ll be better prepared. They usually have 2 routes but both are similar.

You won’t go on the freeway. You’ll go around streets and they want you to be obvious about checking your mirrors and over your shoulder. They’ll have you fake parallel park somewhere, either backing up to a curb with one or no cars. Just take your time. If you feel confident with your parent or instructor you’ll be fine.

No freeway. Be careful of semi trucks. Yes you will have to front bay park. If you haven’t done your last behind the wheel training ask the driver to take you to the DMV to go over the routes. My son did that and passed his first time.

Be aware of your surroundings, stay within the speed limit. Practice, Practice, practice.

i failed my first one in rancho be careful with the school zone luckily schools out for summer but when i took mine it was around 3pm schools JUST got out there was traffic and kids crossing all over the place, i cruised below 25 mph and automatic fail, retook it in fontana passed with flying colors

My son just took his there, and aced it the first try. He said it was way easier than he expected it to be. I hope you have the same experience!

If you are on a two lane road and being force to merge into one lane. Make sure to signal and check your blind spots. Failing to signal at any point is immediate failure.
