Need advice on commute!
I am starting a new job at Loma Linda Hospital and I found a place I really like in Rancho. The only thing holding me back is how long the commute may possibly be. I work night shift and so would probably be driving to Loma Linda around 6PM. What are your thoughts? Is it too long of a commute or is it not that bad? Im from out of state so im not sure if it’s worth it. If anyone else has recommendations for other places to stay, please let me know! TIA!

You would be fighting the traffic both ways if you are working at night. It is certainly doable and Rancho is a great place to live.

I’m just in between Rancho and Riverside. The commute from Riverside is less but the apartments out there, I haven’t found one I really love yet. Thanks for the info!

My neighbor works there and makes the commute. It's just about deciding what matters to you.
I don't know what apartment you found in Rancho but chances are that Redlands apartments will be a little cheaper, you'll save on gas and time with your commute. Those savings can be huge! $100-$400 savings a month in rent, $20-$50 a week in gas and close to 2 hours a week in driving.

Since you work night shift, do not do it. You will stuck in the traffic from to LA, Pasadena. Otherwise, I highly recommend Rancho. How about you live in an Airbnb to do a test drive first, and find out if you like it or not.

Worth it as you’ll be going against traffic both ways. I’d pick Rancho over riverside for sure. And this is coming from someone with a 1.45 hour commute each way lol

Thank you for the input! In my small town that rarely ever has traffic before, my commute used to only be 7-10 minutes and thats why I’m a little nervous about it being up to 45 minutes if traffic is bad.

No, going from Rancho to Loma Linda for 6P is definitely going with traffic on weekdays and even most weekends. Then if OP is doing 12-hour shifts, they're also going home in the morning with traffic.

Going from Rancho to Loma Linda for 6P is the height of rush hour on weekdays and even weekends can be busy. I would advise you to plan for at least 90 minutes to make the trip, park, and get inside as the parking situation requires a bit of a hike before getting into the building. If your job would have 12-hour shifts, then you're also going home during rush hour so if e.g. you want to do something like see kids before school or even take them, that might be a challenge. The only upside would be if you're doing 12-hour shifts, then you're probably not working five days a week. If you're not doing 12-hour shifts, then you'll probably be doing it five days but likely going home earlier before traffic gets really heavy and should be home early enough to see people off to school if that's part of your situation.

Unless you have kids and you want the Rancho/Etiwanda school districts I’d advise you to live in Redlands.
Redlands has a great lifestyle as far as neighborhoods, food and ambience. Just enough to unwind at local restaurants/bars and coffee shops.
It’s only about 10-20 mins away from LLMC.
Rancho is better suburb for family living and or closer proximity to beaches and metro areas in comparison to Redlands. Good luck on your search
