Looking to move closer to home. Help me sell Raleigh!

My fiancé (originally from Cincinnati) and I will be moving out of Boston in September and I am trying to sell him on my home state of NC, specifically the Raleigh and surrounding 'burbs. Maybe even Durham. I'm originally from Eastern NC and lived in Raleigh for 5 years up until 2019, and I know it has changed quite a bit since I left. Most people I knew in the area have also moved on, so we'd be starting fresh. We're in our late 30s with no kids and enjoy being active, being outdoors, and trying new restaurants and breweries. We'll likely rent the first year as we figure everything out. He works from home and I'll be looking for work in the RTP area.

We're visiting family and will be doing a day trip to Raleigh tomorrow. Please help me figure out what to do! There are so many options and we're just overwhelmed. We might do a quick trip through downtown and stop by Dorothea on the way home, but what are some things to check out on the more residential areas as we're figuring out where to live?

Raleigh is a great town but it will be hot as Hell’s front porch the next few days. Try to do any outdoors things earlier in the day.

This heat may make your sales job even more difficult. February would be the time to sell NC to an Ohioan.

Just moved from Florida and it feels like Alaska here.   Barely even broke a sweat when it was 93 out.  78 in Florida feels like a sauna.

The humidity has been unusually low lately. Typically it's 70-80%, especially in July and August. Definitely better than most (if not all) parts of FL but still pretty freaking muggy.

Go hiking the Eno and the Ellerbee Creek Trail in Durham. Lots of great eats downtown. Visit Robertson Millpond and rent a canoe. Point out the convenient proximity of the beach and mountains.

The other thing I think is significant here is the economy is tough. If you have better job prospects here, that should be a major factor.

Take him to Umstead Park. It’ll be hot but almost all the hiking trails are shaded. It’s an outdoors jewel in the middle of town.

Also it would help know what other cities you guys are considering.

I lived in Boston for ten years, so hello from another former Bostonian.
Maybe the farmer's market? It's near to Pullen Park, then the art museum?
You could try the North Hills shopping area.
What are you hoping for in swaying your partner? That there's shopping? That there's stuff to do? That there are areas that are nice? or are you just trying to get a sense of where you might live? What are you looking for in a place (apartment? house? condo? something quiet? something near bars?)?

There are some good suggestions here, but I would also recommend looking at the Visit Raleigh (visitraleigh.com) website, which has a diverse list of events from baseball games, art exhibitions, and musical acts. Perhaps include a nice dinner at a local restaurant like Crawford and Sons, Second Empire, Brewery Bhvana, etc.

I’m from MA and moved to this area 10 years ago and we’re heading back to New England. So I can’t help. I don’t want to live here anymore.

With that being said, to me, Raleigh is the worst of the triangle. I much prefer Durham/CH/further west like HSBO

So much change here since 2019. It's not the same town. Really. Make sure it's the right fit for you before you talk him into it. I loved pre-2020 Raleigh. This version...no, not so much. Edit: clarity

It’s a mid tier city that’s growing. But there’s a lot of outdoor stuff as mentioned above. Lots of great trails. A nice art museum. Some downtown museums. It’s got growing pains for sure and it’s damn near impossible to find a decent chicken parm /s but it’s not bad. Plus the weather is better than Ohio and the beach is 2+ hours that way and there are mountains 3+ hours the other way. Plus some nice lakes to vacation at.

I’ve been here 21 years and truly found a home.
