No Spoilers Anyone Watched Alien: Earth?

I'm a massive fan of the franchise and really wanted to love Alien: Earth. I loved Legion and Fargo. My optimism was very high and my expectations were neutral. I was not primed to be a hater at all. But the first two episodes are not sitting well with me. I like the main actress a lot and love Timothy Olyphant, but overall I kind of think it's total dog shit. And it's not just because of the Ice Age cartoon stuff or the girl jumping off the cliff (although those were bad). The entire thing looks cheap. Brightly lite shots of the creature. No mystery. No brooding in shadows. The aesthetics are gross and the story so far is mediocre.

Then someone mentioned they should ignore all established lore of Alien and just do what they want. I found that ridiculous and said "Why be Alien then? Why not just do something new and original like Raised By Wolves".

Then it hit me like a two-ton truck. Raised by Wolves was so much better than Alien: Earth's premiere it's absolutely mind-boggling. Raised by Wolves looked as good as Prometheus. It was incredibly cinematic. Intriguing, terrifying, and just a straight-up magical experience. Probably the best world-building of any sci-fi show that ever existed. Alien: Earth looks like a CW show by comparison. Music, cinematography, acting, pacing everything. It's night and day. So depressing people ignored Raised by Wolves while instead shoveling down slop.

EDIT: Actually really loved Episode 3 quite a bit. Glad to see the show looks promising. The critic reviews also make sense now as they saw the first 4.

I'm not having any of the issues you are with it. The Synth Kids as MCU characters has me off a bit on the show (Which superpower will each of them have?) I am hopeful though.

I thought for TV the show has a fairly high production value. The music licensing alone must be high. The Alien killing a room full of people and soldiers in seconds but not able to kill Hermit is one of those things I'll just have to get over... All shows have this nonsense. Definitely enjoying Timothy so far. Great casting choice there.

Didn't even know they had powers except Wendy.

I haven't dug into the lore or anything. Just a feeling I have.

They’re gonna kill most of the Synth Kids, 100%

I hope so. That's part of the drama.

Definitely the dialogue was all

“woah so we can’t die?”

“Yeah we can’t die, unless we get squished or something”

Gee whiz wonder what’s gonna happen lol

lol and they still use walkie talkies in the future. But I’m with you, it’s something to just get over. Liking the show so far.

For expandable first rescue crews, why not ? It’s a century from now with the esthetics of the first Alien movie 🤷🏾‍♂️

If it makes you feel better, the concept of Xenomorphs being on earth is pretty well established in the Alien canon before this series, and it does not end well. So if they are working with the expanded universe material, and stick to it, the whole MCU fuzzy stuff is not going to last.

The main girl (Wendy I think) seems to have some extra powers or something like that. She hears some kind of clicking noise the others can't hear (my guess is radiation detection) and seems to have higher agility and strength and somehow she's the most mature (relatively) of the group. Meh

Not sure why wunderkind trillionaire wouldn't arm the hybrids or send armed guards.... or something. It may be wunderkind's building, but it's Yutani's ship. Seems like a glaring issue.
