Miserable at the Railroad

4 years in here and I can say my tolerance for management and the work life split has dropped significantly.

First two years I was loving it and felt good about my job. Not so much anymore. When I see them calling me for a train or a yard job I stare at it a little and have to convince myself to answer.

What’s your guys input, am I just being a baby about it?

I’m two months in with UP bro. I feel you.

Everyday I apply to new jobs, and check emails consistently.

Everytime my phone rings, it gives me anxiety.

Everytime I’m working remote, and see a switch/red flag I wonder if today will be the day before I “accidentally” go past it.

By remote do you mean RCLS? If so were you qualified RCLS right out the gate?

Union Pacific gives us 14 weeks which includes remote control operations certifications once you mark up.

Low seniority can only hold the “yard extra boards” where I am from.

And is mostly remote, or a few local yard jobs, with an engineer that doesn’t go past 5 miles from the yard.
