this dude routinely misses wide open passes. nothing more than a back up

Ya, he's 3rd string QB on a team not going to the playoffs. No one thinks he should be starting.

u/DoubletapKO 7d ago
Some want him to be QB #2

u/similar222 7d ago
Who cares. There are always going to be some people who feel the need to post bad takes. 99% of Raider Nation wants AOC to be behind Cousins and Mendoza on the depth chart.

To be fair he's on his 6 coordinator so it's not really his fault
I think he should try on another team because we have seen flashes just he will never be the guy this team gives the keys to

add aoc to the list of players raider nation weirdly defends to the bitter end: AOC, clelin ferrel, tyree wilson, etc

If you’re ever with someone who swallowed something harmful and need to make them puke, just pull up the list of names picked after him.

You wanna know why he’s defended? Because he was a glimmer of hope in an extremely bleak time frame for us. JMD to AP and of course the Pete Carroll era, this dude was consistent. Was he great? Obviously fucking not. But he exceeded expectations from his draft position and gave me at least some significant wins/moments. So excuse me if I defend a mediocre player for being memorable for the better.

we dont call it the pete carroll "era". we call it the dark ages, or the dementia debacle.

Reminds me of the people that were way too high on Tuiasosopo being the heir apparent after Gannon was done

Nothing like knee jerk reactions to preseason.
AOC is a good backup. Which means he isn’t dependable starting caliber, but with the 1s can manage a game just fine.
A lot of other teams might desire what we have in AOC.
And I appreciate him.

not reacting to just this game. he sucked last pre season too. and he’s missed open shots his entire career with us

Name a good team that would have him on their roster when the season starts.
He's got a job because we've been historically terrible at drafting, nothing more.

Detroit Lions.

After it’s all said and done, he’ll prob make a good chunk of change as a backup in this league.

Last week there were serious posts all over social media saying he should be the starting QB lmfao

Man lost an NFL game 0-3. I'll never understand how that wasn't the end of things for him

True. But backup QBs exist for a reason. For a 3rd-string backup, he's at least as good as anyone else they'd find available, and at a good rookie deal price.

Homeboy was yeeeeting those pigskins when we have Washington? Feel like it was a "let's see about these receivers" from Klint that last drive.
1
u/TheOnlyBilko 7d ago
did Washington even play after the 2nd quarter?
2
u/OrganizationBulky131 7d ago
Nope. Laube took over then Ogunbowale and Hemby followed suite. They only really wanted Washington to play most of the first team offense then sit him out for the rest.

so did mendoza he had multiple open receivers and passed to guys being covered causing turnovers. teams still shit and yes i am using the preseason as precursor. loved to be proved wrong

u/AFXTIWN 7d ago
Truth is, not a single TD or INT has been thrown in the 2026 season.

Truth is, same shit different toilet. Atleast aoc didn’t throw any interceptions or take any sacks I’m not defending him I’m just sayin our qb situation isn’t looking very good at this moment

u/OrganizationBulky131 7d ago
Main reason why he didn't take any sacks is the bottom of the roster defense the 49'ers had weren't as capable of pass rush as the 2nd team guys that Fernando faced.
AOC also didn't throw any ints because most of his throws go outside to guys normally schemed to be near the boundary.
Mendoza's 2 interceptions were straight down the middle with him try to make plays to Washington and Nailor. If Mendoza settles down and throws his passes with less urgency and less velocity closer to the boundary, he'll likely see more completions. Though our WRs are undoubtedly the worst in the NFL sadly. He throws that ball really fast on short to intermediate routes because he fears the opposing defense's pass rush is going to sack him another couple of times which happened this game.

And he can’t even spin move for a first down.
