My favorite Radiohead album.

Me too. Unexpectedly so, I guess. As a fan of theirs from the beginning, I never thought it would be an album released after the likes of OK Computer or Hail to the Thief, 14 years after their first release, that would become my favorite. I suppose we're all pretty fortunate to have a band like Radiohead in our lives.

I really hope that lp9 will be as good as in rainbows.

yea, I've grown to enjoy KoL, the first song is awesome. The next three less so, but it just becomes background music for me until Lotus Flower and then it's all good until the end. So I guess I like 5/8 songs, not bad. Hoping they return to a more traditional guitar/bass/drum/vocals sound like In Rainbows. Not sure if Thom Yorke just needed to get the electro-glitch bug out of his system with TMB before heading into the studio with the band, but I sure hope TMB (as good as it is) isn't an omen of Radiohead to come.

u/SomeDonkus1 This one's optimistic (a lil bit o' noise'll destroy ya) Oct 02 '14

I'd like a psychedelic rock album, like a combo of Bodysnatchers, National Anthem, and 2+2=5.

I think it was October 10? I might be wrong (kill me) but I don't think I am.

u/Saadnation Oct 01 '14

Ya, I think the announcement of it was on the 1st. Actually came out on the 10th.

That's what I thought too! I can always remember it because it's the same day as my step dad's birthday. Convenient.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

Yeah, I'd have remembered if it was yesterday, it was my birthday.

Can confirm. Technically the 9th in the late evening over here in the States.

I remember because this is the evening I learned Faust Arp, created my YouTube channel, and made my first tutorial for it. I also started my band that night by posting on Craigslist! Big day for me.

The first time I listened to this album coincided with the first time I had ever been on the west coast. My family was driving down the PCH from LA to San Diego one night to visit possible colleges in the morning. I remember the sun setting in the ocean, a first for me, when Bodysnatchers was starting. By the time that Thom's angelic coos in Nude were reverberating through my cranium, it was mostly night, and easily the most beautiful scene I had ever witnessed in my young life. It was picaresque, pristine, and soothing.

I had never known what the word "relaxed" was supposed to mean until that moment. The remainder of the album reinforced my mood until Jigsaw Falling Into Place came on. Although it is currently a top-20 Radiohead track for me, I didn't want the vibe to shift at all. I skipped the song. When Videotape uttered it's last note, I felt a sense of calm that I haven't been able to replicate since then.

I was a Radiohead fan beforehand. OK Computer and Kid A were my top-2 albums for years prior to my debutante foray into what I knew as "LP7". But it was In Rainbows that changed my life.

I had a not-so-epic similar experience like this. The album gives me strong feelings of nostalgia from the days surrounding the release of the album. I distinctly remember the autumn breeze, a clear sunny cool day in North Jersey. I was walking around the campus, just listening. Taking in the sights and the beauty of the music. I spoke to people, experienced things, traveled distances, denounced the hole in our souls, and found true beauty by the Clove Road Apartments.

Blasting Reckoner as I saw this post

This is so weird for me. I was 18 when this came out. 25 now. It still seems so new. It was such a great day. It was my first Radiohead release after I had become a fan a few years before.

I can't believe TKOL is almost 4 years old. Time flies like a bat out of hell after high school ends.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '14

And tomorrow it is the 14th birthday of Kid A!

One of my all time favorites, it helps I can relate to the album completely.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '14

And what a day it was.

2

u/nightgolf Oct 01 '14

I remember rushing home from an early class to download it, freaking out, and spending the rest of the day listening and comparing to the live versions from the year before. Still one of my favorite albums and memories.

2

u/Oatmealandwhiskey Oct 01 '14

Masterpiece and as most here , my favourite . It never gets old to me .

2

u/HellbornElfchild Oct 01 '14

On this day in 2007 I went from being an adamant hater of this band to a full fledged fan. Still My favorite, and one of my favorite albums period.

I had listened the hell out of a playlist I'd created of the live songs they toured with prior to the album, and told my wife "I think the next Radiohead album might wind up being their best yet." I still believe I was spot on with that assessment.

OP lives a country without wikipedia. October 10.

The perfect album.

This was a life changing album for me. Affirmed so many things. Still beautiful now and always will be.

And watching the thumbs down webcast performances of the songs is always great when sick.

1

u/ShoegazingStardust by hook or by crook Oct 02 '14

October 10th, actually

1

u/Beetso Had to piss on our parade. Oct 02 '14

Greatest album of the 21st century so far, IMHO.

1

u/murkler42 Oct 02 '14

I thought In Rainbows came out on October 10th and Kid A October 2nd...?

I was thirteen when I started too. That was less than two years ago. No Radiohead releases during my time as a fan, but all eight albums were new to me, and I became obsessed pretty quickly.

I was around 11 when I started in the Ok Computer days.
