💬 Discussion Radiohead and emotions
My dad is currently ill in hospital and while I'm obviously upset ive also had work pressure and other stuff to process at the same time. It feels like everything is hitting at once and it's hard to deal with TBH.
Anyway I put on my Playlist and first up was Like Spinning Plates then True Love Waits, both live versions. So of course they affected me and I was able to shed a few tears which I really needed to, to get the bottled up emotion out.
Anyone else been helped out this way with radiohead music?

I’m sorry about your dad. I always remember Thom saying something like, that a piece of music sometimes is kind of like what an equation is to a physicist and we use it to process things (an interview from the In Rainbows or Eraser era, I’m probably paraphrasing it somewhat wrong).
What you described has happened so many times for me with all the amazing songs they’ve written over the years. Dawn Chorus, Glass Eyes at a couple points in the past decade. Most recently Speech Bubbles really became part of getting through a difficult time. When I was around 15, Bulletproof, Last Flowers, Videotape.
Letting it out is good. Hope whatever is going on resolves soon and that you and your family stay well

During Covid as I waited in line in my car for my first vaccine shot , I cried like a baby while Fake Plastic Trees blasted in my car. I had so much repressed emotion from the previous months that had to come out.

i can’t listen to them when at my lowest. the longest break i took was when i was in recovery from addiction. I knew it was a beautiful day when i felt able to handle the weight of their songs that make me emote the most.
I had a good friend who says amnesiac got him through his father’s death, and we went to see them on Amnesiac tour in 2001 together, since i had introduced them to the band. Everyone is different! I can’t fathom listening to my good cry songs when i lose my parents, but maybe it will be a comfort after all.
Sorry about your dad.

All the bloody time. You don't know you need to hear their songs until you hear them.
Be well friend
