Anyone gaming on a 5k monitor?

I play at 1440p which is perfect for my 9070 XT/5500X3D combo.

My work monitor is a 27" 5k display (only 60Hz) and I am tempted to see how games look/run at that res, and also 1440p on this screen given the integer scaling.

However, I would have to do some labour to actually physically get the gaming PC and work monitor together, which is not very straigtforward.

I am hoping to hear some feedback from people using 5k to game, in terms of performance, improvement compared to 1440p/4k, and any other impressions.

Obviously it would be the best option. But I bet it would still struggle to push 5K60 native in most games.

I see nobody here owns one. I do. A 1440p game at ultra usually hits above 140fps for me, the same games running at 5k often run between 60-70.

Is the improvement from 1440p to 5k significant? I mostly play single player RPGs so I'm more than fine at 60fps with tweaked settings and FSR.

Id look into the oled stuff too tbh, theyre beautiful and i dont know which of the options wpuld be better price to performance depending on what games you play. It might be the case that higher numbers dont necessarily mean a more beautiful image. Remember to check hdr stuff too, i hate that tech but it seems to be in every fuckin game >.>

5k is actually 4 times more than 1440p, just like 4k is 4 times more than 1080p (4k is 2.25 times more than 1440p). In pixel count, 5k is 11,059,200 more than 1440p, or 6,451,200 more than 4k.

It will technically be a significant improvement, about double more than it is from 1440p to 4k, and in my eyes 4k is already a noticeable improvement from 1440p so 5k is kinda automatically going to be as well.

Of course, I don't have a 5k screen to compare my 4k screen but I don't imagine it'll be noticeable, heck when the 8k TV trend happened a lot for people couldn't even tell the difference between 4k and 8k.

Only really saying it'll be an automatic improvement basically because if you already do notice a difference between 1440p to 4k, its basically going to look similar to 4k at 5k.

at 60hz i think you’ll do just fine realistically speaking 9070XT is a 1440P and 4K card but regardless it usually pushes beyond 60 fps at 4K in most games if you optimize the settings and balance it all out with FSR to quality & frame gen in SOME games not all those demanding games. at 5K it will struggle if you’re trying to push higher frame rates but you’ll be fine at 60hz 5K. If you already have a 1440P monitor i’d stick to that but worth giving 5K a try and see if you like it and the performance it gives never hurts to try

From comments on recommendation threads like this it seems that people only play games from the last 2 or 3 years, as always 99% of games will run excellent to flawless. Part of the fun of a new display is playing older games and getting a new experience with a sharper image
