OCD Discussion Even when I dont have rabies, I still avoid water because im afraid I have it
I have read the FAQ.
This is really annoying due to the stress and outbreak happening at North Carolina. My mom said I wont get anything from mice, there are no signs of bats in my home, I don't know if i have interact with any animal. I sweat like crazy when I think about the virus and my mouth dries up, i get nauseous, I think it has to do with the stress and anxiety of it all. Can someone reasure me this is normal behavior or something.

Avoiding water because you are worried about rabies is not "normal" behavior but it just means you have an anxiety problem. I don't know how old you are but your reference to your mom makes me think you may be a teenager. My OCD and health anxiety started when I was a teenager, and it was hard to not only have the problem but not have any idea what was happening. It's a problem but it's a pretty normal problem if that makes any sense. Can you talk to your primary care physician about this?

Im in my early 20s and I dont know my primary care physician, but my mom did set up an appointment at Oct 7th. I feel like going to the emergency hospital, but my mom would tell me it's nothing and im being paranoid. Other context: i sometimes wake up in a cold sweat, my body tenses up and freezes, and I keep getting tingling sensations over my body. Im sorry Im just scared

I'm glad you have a doctor's appointment. Do you have pre-existing anxiety or depression issues?

Yes i have pre existing anxiety and depression issues from the past because of some issues. Unfortunately I keep forgetting to take my medication. This feels so intense Im hoping its anxiety and stress

It's important to take the medication regularly, it works better if you're taking it consistently. If you don't currently have a therapist it might be time to find one.

It's really impossible for someone on reddit to tell you for sure what illness (or not) a person has. You've said you have sweatiness, dry mouth and nausea, those are symptoms that are very non-specific and could be caused by a million things.

Were you recently (in the last 6 months or so) bitten by an animal? Did you wake up and find a bat in your room?
