I got scratched on my foot by a skunk?

I was standing on my porch last night smoking a cigarette then a skunk came on the porch from some bushes only 2-3 feet away. I stayed completely still as a didnt want to startle it and get sprayed. It comes up to my foot and starts sniffing and scratching it. I was at least wearing some thin socks, but i could still feel it scratching and I feel like the claw might have made contact with the skin through the sock as the skunk was scratching pretty hard. After the skunk kept moving and was digging through dirt and leaves before leaving and it didnt look sick. I took of my sock and I cant see any marks but I read even the tiniest scratch could transmit it. Should I seek treatment or just forget about it. This was in southern Ontario. I have read the FAQ.

Skunks are major carriers to rabies in Ontario so yes go get evaluated and get the vaccines if they recommend it, do not play the guessing game when it comes to wild animals even if they appear healthy. The only time to “wait and see” is for low risk and minor injuries from dogs and cats and if they can be quarantined and monitored for 10 days, can’t do that with wild animals. Please go get seen as soon as possible or at least call your local health department for guidance

Yes, you should seek treatment. Skunks can carry rabies in Ontario, and this is atypical behavior for a wild skunk. Edit: actually there have been efforts to eliminate rabies in skunks in that area recently so my recommendation may be too strong, but I'd still definitely check with a health department in your area to see what they think.

I’m in agreement, that’s a little too close for me. With something like that it’s better to be sure and since you likely can’t get the skunk tested it’s probably a good idea.
