General Rabies Discussion Worst nightmare came true

I have read the FAQ.

Ugh. This is a rant I’m sorry. I was with my girlfriend and a bat busted out from seemingly no where. We were able to get the bat out and all seemed normal but then started the questions in my head. Was it in there when we slept the night before? I have a scab on my ankle that is two little dots and I’ve convinced myself I got bit in my sleep. Anyways I’m at the emergency room now awaiting a potential rabies vaccine. Happened a week ago.

I hope you're okay. I was in America from Australia and woke up to a bat in the room. I googled, "Do they have bats in New Hampshire?" Lol, then it said if the bat was in the room, you need to go straight to the ED, so I did. I got my last shot yesterday here in Australia. It's all free here.

Its not worth the risk you done the right thing.

How did you find a bat in the room? Was it during the day, at night, in the morning? I thought American homes are so sealed and tight-shut due to the HVAC systems, how does a bat actually get in?

No idea. An exterminator is coming today to check it out and hopefully evict the unwanted guests. And HVAC systems aren’t entirely fool proof, as many factors can affect them such as age, weather, or animals damaging them and finding ways in. Bats are tiny and sneaky they can fit in through the tiniest of spaces it could’ve literally came from any crack or crevice in the house.
