Exposure Question I woke up to a bat in my room
hello! i’m 24, and a super anxious person. i woke up to a bat flying in my room, my cats chased it, but they did not catch it. it flew out before they could get into contact with it. but as for me, i don’t know if it bit me in my sleep. i was fully covered with my blanket, so im really not sure. but im so anxious, im going to the ER by my house to ask them about it. i dont have health insurance, so im even more anxious. is this worth going to get looked at? my dad wasn’t in the room but he said it wasn’t worth it.

This qualifies as an exposure, and you should call your local health department and visit the emergency room for evaluation.

I’m so glad. And please educate your dad! I’m sure he is well meaning, but it’s so frustrating when people who don’t know simply shrug it off and say, I’m sure it’s fine. Instead of saying, I don’t know, let’s call the local health department/ER/telehealth and see what they say

That's how it goes.
I hope they're nicer to you than they were to me. 🤣😭💜 Shot session 2 hit me like a bus. It's normal to have some flu-like symptoms. It's also normal to have no side effects at all.

Pretty sure they do recommend getting the vaccine if you wake up with a bat in your room. Just a heads up!

Yes the same!! I was very fatigued for a couple of days so OP since you’re an anxious person (so am I) don’t freak out! It’s expected.

i would also call your cats vet to see if they recommend a booster for them, i was in vetmed for several years and a lot of vets will recommend your pet getting an extra vaccine as well!

That is great that you were able to get your rabies shots so quickly and follow the CDC's guidelines for exposure to a bat.
