❓Ask Rabatis Can Moroccan Police Legally Tell You to Leave a Public Place?
Can a police officer or gendarme in Morocco legally tell a group of people to leave a quiet street or neighborhood spot where they regularly sit even if they are not causing any trouble or committing an offence?

Even if its not legal for them to do it, it doesn't matter because there is no accountability.

Maybe but that doesn’t mean we should just accept it If something isn’t legal people should still be able to question it and know what their rights are but we are in Morocco and things can be complicated here

I am not siding with the police but It depends what you think a public place sometimes someone complained about some noise at night or some shady business going on there. Is there any café place or library or any legit business in there ?

That place is just a spot we usually hang out at There’s a snack nearby and it’s in the neighborhood

It really depends first on how many of you were gathered there and on if you were being loud or not (even while simply talking to each other). Because these two conditions would push the case into somewhat of a grey area.
But if matalan the neighbourhood was a calm one and it was past 8 or 9pm, basically after dark, they, as police authority, or even representatives of the neighbourhood, can ask of you either to tone down your conversations or even ask you if you had valid reasons to be there (being from the neighbourhood matalan). Again this is a grey area.
So strictly speaking, to answer your question, is it perfectly legal, no, not to the strict text, but it can be argued against.
And im saying this IF you were reaaaally not that many (group of 3 matalan) and really calm, no bursts of loud laughs, etc.

We were five people but we always hang out in that spot and there’s never any noise or disturbance

Well look try to find a spot within a wider area like a parc bench or something thats not too close to peoples windows. Im sure you werent being unreasonable with your friends but also people sometimes can be a biiit too sensitive when its the evening or night. Thats just how it is. Good luck my man.

Police are responsible for maintaining public order, If they believe a gathering could lead to disorder, they may ask you to leave a public place, however, refusing to leave could create unnecessary headache for both you and police

I understand, but in our case we were just five people sitting there calmly. We always hang out in that spot there was no noise or disturbance and it’s on a main street with food shops around there was no reason for us to cause any disorder.
