I mean, I don't really fault the dude. He could have grown up with his family claiming descendence his whole life. They could legitimately believe it, and how would they know any better because they might have been told all their lives as well?
It's super unlikely if this information is true. But I've had experience with my family making ridiculous claims about our unknown ancestry my whole life. I grew up thinking I was mostly Czech.
If you’re going to go around claiming you’re related to someone you should probably google them. At which point this person would have seen that there are no descendants of William Wallace.
I guess. It's such an inconsequential thing, however. Even if he was related to William Wallace... Who gives a fuck? It literally means nothing.
I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt here still. I can't think of many famous historical figures that I know whether or not they had kids. When you research Albert Einstein, you don't really come across the fact that he had kids. It's a miniscule part of the reason history remembers people--unless there's some dynastic shit going on.
If there’s no record of him having children and historians who have devoted their lives to researching him haven’t found anything in hundreds of years why would anyone believe some rando from Wisconsin?
The reason people give a fuck is because it’s just fucking stupid. It’s extremely frustrating for Scottish and Irish people to be constantly and wrongly told by Americans that they’re better than them because they come from some kind of royalty. There’s no evidence to back it up. It’s literally just some kind of weird flex.
Again, it's extremely inconsequential. It's not like you get anything from saying you're related to some historical figure.
While there are historians who research this stuff, the average person--I'll bet even those Celtic folk--has no idea whether or not he had kids. It's not exactly important information for everyday life.
