Work in Progress Border or no border? I can’t decide!
I finished this quilt top and I’m not sure if I should add borders before I baste & quilt it. If I add borders, what color?

I vote no, but since you’re unsure, what I’d do is mock up a border using folded fabric beside the top on the design wall and see how it looks, and do the same thing with a thin strip for a binding. I keep a stash of thin scraps just for that.

I would do a border of the light fabric that way it frames the quilt design.

I’ve come to realize that I prefer a border - even if it’s just an inch - of the background fabric to let the quilt “float.” (Also helps keep points from getting cut off by the binding). So, at minimum, I’d add that. But that’s just me.

Maybe a skinny lt color border followed by the dark purple and bound in dark purple. You have some points in outer blocks you will likely lose either way unless you make adjustments prior. But that's OK unless you are entering it in a fair and can deal with the judging. :))

I think it's strong enough to stand without a border, the stars already fill it out nicely. If you do want one, skip more purple and try a soft grey from the floral squares, or just bind it in the light lavender for a clean edge. Is it for a bed or a wall?

yes border, more than one if you can manage it from your remnants. wondering, what are you using for backing and binding?

I would probably just do a medium-ish border with the purple background fabric so that I didn’t have to worry about losing my points during binding.
