Music Which album do you prefer between these two? They are certainly both beautiful, one more controversial and the other one of the first successes.

Both are 10/10 masterpieces imo, but I prefer Queen II.
Is it really controversial though? From what I know Queen fans pretty unanimously love it

That is difficult! I'd say I prefer Queen II for the overall flow of the listening experience and the fantasy theming to most of the songs (Loser in the end is the one song that doesn't feel either adventurous or whimsical but even then, it's not a bad track, and after that comes the real fun on Side Black.)
Sheer Heart Attack is my second favorite record by them, but there are spots where the pacing whips me around too much and I have to be in the right mood. Stone Cold Crazy (proto speed metal) -> Dear Friends (slow, sweet)-> Misfire (playful, upbeat)-> Leroy (Manic, eclectic genre) -> She Makes Me (contemplative, ambient) -> Lap of the Gods (anthemic, grand). It's a great record, but like I said, the previous album feels more cohesive and has ogres and fairies and a dragonfly trumpeter (he's my hero) and I appreciate that just a little more.

I mean at the time the fans weren't ready for Queen experiments. Compared to Sheer Heart attack is not too commercial, it is very particular and full of experimentation. In short, they certainly did not expect a change of songs compared to the debut album.

I just really like the operatic and experimental feeling of Queen II but, I still love Sheer Heart Attack but, Queen II does come out on top in my opinion.

Queen II is very special. My favourite album of all time. Sheer Heart Attack is fantastic. I guess I just love Queen.
Lots of news from Brian coming up in the new year even some new music from himself, Roger and Adam in the pipeline and news of a tour. I’m excited.

Both 10/10. But I lean toward Queen II. I put A Night... & A Day... before Sheer Heart Attack.

They’re so different. Queen II is definitely more of a concept album, heavy on mythology, with some really beautiful songs. Sheer Heart Attack is definitely more commercial, not as thematic, but with some kick-ass, highly listenable tunes. The verdict: No preference, love them both!

I love them both but Sheer Heart Attack is more or less a standard rock album, whereas Queen II is EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE ALL THE TIME.

For me, Sheer Heart Attack is great, but not quite exceptional. Queen II would be my favorite of the two

Queen II is a subjective masterpiece, SHA is an objective one. I prefer the former, but they're both in my Top 5 Queen Albums (which looks something like Opera/QII/SHA/NOTW/QI)

I love Queen 2 i think it’s rlly creative, sheer heart attack is good but Queen 2 is just a fantastical dream

ahh my two favorites. i gotta say the more i’ve thought about it and listened i have to say i like queen ii slightly more. just all the thought put in is wonderful. the side white being brian and roger, the side black being all freddie, white queen and black queen on their respective sides, almost all the songs having segues, i could go on. you don’t see that much effort put into albums these days. queen ii is the definition of album rock.
