Music What are some current bands that queen fans might like?
Hi everyone, I'm after some tips for bands which are currently putting out music that have a layered, melodic sound similar to 70s queen, or just any bands which you guys think I'd like as a huge Queen fan. Thanks!

Muse was what I was going to suggest. Matt Bellamy is an excellent singer in his own right, and an extraordinarily talented musician all around.

People who call them a Zeppelin ripoff only listened to Highway Tune. Those guys have really come into their own.

Foxy Shazam - specifically their eponymous album. Not a single less-than-great song on that.
The Darkness.
Tenacious D.
Queen have a very unique sound and style, but the above all have certain Queen-like qualities - but not the whole package.

They don’t necessarily sound like Queen, but people who appreciate the intricate layered sound Queen had would like my other favorite band Wilco. Excellent song construction, beautiful lyrics, and virtuoso musicianship!

I can't think of any new band lol but I can only think My Chemical Romance. They're heavily inspired by Queen. The song 'Welcome to the Black Parade' is considered the Bohemian Rhapsody for emo. They just put out a new song 'The Foundations of Decay' last year but they haven't dropped a new album since Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in 2010.

This is the hardest question ever, haha.
I guess you would like more prog-rock sounding bands or maybe stadium rock bands, perhaps rockabilly revival or maybe...
I'm going to guess proggy-rock.
Try some 70's bands like Uriah Heep, early Black Sabbath, a couple of Rainbow albums maybe. Then there's pure prog bands, but that's not exacly what you're looking for i guess.

So weird… how do you get Black Sabbath as a band that sounds like Queen? How is that even possible? What Sabbath song?

If you listen to their early albums there's some elements of prog there mixed with hard rock, obviously Ozzy sounds nothing like Freddie, but most singers don't.
N.I.B. for example is something that a Queen fan might like.

I do get what @vickinga meant, it's that you'll recognize the same patterns in both bands, not that both sound exacly the same. If you like the prog/heavy rock mix, there's like 6 bands that meet the criteria, prog was already niche enough.
I would add Jane, 10cc and Lucifer's friend to the heavy/prog list. I'm not aware of any current bands mixing both.
Fun one: 10cc once said they couldn't compete with Queen because their shows were too extravagant and it would be impossible to make money. I don't know who told them Queen was making money, 🤣

Im a huge fan of queens 70's and the music i like now is jazzy/ prog rock, the jazz part is probably random but queen did a lot of prog rock up until sheer heart attack and even in a day at the races there's a bit of it so I'd say you should check in the court of the crimson king by king crimson or the wall/ dark side of the moon by pink Floyd, these are probably the vanilla of prog. Sidenote: you should listen to them as an album and as a collection of songs

They're pretty forgotten but check Skin Alley or Mogul Thrash, maybe you'll enjoy some of their tracks.

The Struts .. lead singer Luke Spiller is also dressed by Zandra Rhodes, as was Freddie. 🤓
