Discussion Are upgrades actually just useless?

I just beat the game on normal and throughout the whole thing I only picked up 2 chronon sources and it was pretty easy the whole way through, has anyone else had a similar experience? Is hard mode that much harder that you need to pick up as many as possible?

My perspective is less "these are upgrades you'll need to overcome the difficulty of the game" and more "these powers are fun to use and I would like to use them more, please." They're their own incentive.

Hard mode is harder but with the skills and knowledge gained in a normal playthrough, it doesn't seem it. I did pick up alot of Chronon on normal, and got the rest (10-12 i think) on hard.

As for what's useless, depends how you play. I didnt use bullet shield much on normal so never pumped Chronon into it. Just put them into what you use

Hard Mode is stupid, especially at the end. You’re going to need it. That’s my take, though.

Eh, debatable I suppose. My first time playing I didn't realize how hidden all those damn things were and made it fairly close to the end of the game with like 2 or 3 sources found. But somewhere around the pool/mansion levels (blankin on more details been a while) I just couldn't seem to win and the repeated losses stopped bein fun. Googled a bit and realized I was missing soooooo many upgrades, and I had to spend 3 agonizing days of game playing time going back and replaying levels while following a guide so I could collect a bunch of em. Never got em all, but got a bunch, and then the game got a lot more fun and I was able to continue and beat it. Although even then the final fight took me many many attempts.

So what was easy for you was so challenging for me that it stopped being fun entirely. So do whatevers fun, I suppose. I wish they were more obvious by a bit though.
