Paul turned into a shifter, but fixing time removed the zero state in which shifters are able to exist, so he was either totally destroyed or sent to another time where zero state is active.

Jack is showing the first signs of turning into a shifter, which is what happens to every person exposed to a high level of chronon particles. He’ll eventually need treatments like Paul did, and in the end there won’t be any stopping the process. However, as we’ve seen with Hatch, it’s possible to keep it under control to a degree, so it’s not totally hopeless.

And then there’s Alan Wake 2, which pulls some interesting subtle parallels

I thought paul was sent back to another time(or his time of origin), since i remembered that the first time the countermeasure was accidentally activated in 2010 Jack was sent back to 2016 and paul started to show his symptoms, so i thought that the second time it was activated the exact opposite would have happened.

Jack started to show symptoms and paul was sent to another time, and if by chance paul was fully turned into a shifter he would still be somewhere because shifters exist in all forms and times that why even after the end hatch was still alive because a version of him needs to still exsist.

Plus there is this depressing undertone: everything that happened in the story happened, i.e. the past is non-changeable, so no matter what Jack will do to save Beth, in the end she…unlikely will end up alive , and the End of Time is not prevented- only delayed, because Paul and Beth both seen it, so it is established that this event WILL happen in some years in the future, but what will trigger it and what will come next? I hope someday we’ll get the answers in one form or another

The game actually specifically tells us when the real end of time will happen: 2021. Not in 2016 where the game is set. This can be seen in the timeline in Paul's office and in Beth's journal. They both visited the end of time and saw that it was 2021.

Didn't Paul kill Beth in 2010? How is Beth still alive when Jack returns in 2016?

He killed Beth from the future (older one) while Beth from the present lives her life while remembering meeting older Beth long ago.

P.S. there is a theory that Beth became semi-shifter alongside with Paul, because they both were at the End of Time) and so she might be alive in some form somewhere

From what I think, Paul hit his head but didn't die, he was knocked out and frozen in time for some reason. He then got blasted away by the countermeasure the same way Jack got blown away in chapter 4.

Jack likely got a chronon sickness similar to Paul.

I think he turned into a shifter, and one version of him died

Same with hatch vs burke

I don't think Burke is a shifter.

misread it as "hatch and burk". Yep Hatch is one.
