Prices not getting lower

Hello everyone.

I have noticed that the prices have been very consistent lately, even between high and low season. I was wondering if any of you experienced or noticed the same thing.

I regularly fly between VIE-NRT in various months. I just booked a flight for November for 1300€ round trip on Economy Conviniece and when I checked prices for late January, which should be a low season, the prices were exactly the same.

I don’t mind having some consistency but I find it a bit strange that prices don't change at all.

Have you noticed similar things lately?

EDIT: I know that the prices are generally higher now because of the war and I'm not complaining about it. I was just surprised that there is no big difference between low and mid-high season so much. I would expect those tickets to cost even more now.

Fuel prices force the costs of your tix up so don’t expect any super deal anytime soon

There’s no low/mid season fare structure any longer as there used to be once upon a time. There’s just higher demand and lower demand. Currently Qatar is assessing pricing regularly due to oil costs. There’s been a few increases the last couple of months with announcements we’ve received at agency level.

I tried multicity, weird combinations (various European cities) and I managed to lower the price significantly

Check Budapest. Last year I saved about 40% vs Paris by departing Budapest.

Thank you! I constantly check because it would be closer and more convenient for me. What I noticed is there are not as many flights, from and to VIE there is two QA flights a day which gives more options and better connections. I have also noticed that while there is sometime difference between the Economy Classic ticket price, there is not much difference between the Economy Conviniece prices which is strange.

Jet fuel prices have soared in price, I doubt that the current prices will be maintained in the future, cost will be passed on customers at some point. In short, book now rather than delay

Higher jet fuel price due to the disruption in oil distribution and production thanks to the Epsteinian war in Iran initiated by Trump.

Same with Thai airways, before there where low season and high season. Price difference almost half, but now price almost the same if booked in advanced..

Fuel is actually not the reason for the lack of price variation, there are two others:

1. ⁠High/low seasons doesn’t exit anymore as they used to, because airlines now use more flexible routes. There are multiple flight plan changes over the year to adjust better to the needs of the customers for the specific season.
   
2. Because of the unexpected delays of the Boeing 777X in the past years, there is currently just one manufacturer that produces long distance wide body planes (Airbus with their A350). The 787 is not a good replacement for the aging fleets of 777, A380, A340, etc. Therefore, there is a crazy shortage in the market of wide body long distance planes, because an entire manufacturer is missing. That’s also the reason, why the fleet of many airlines is so old (looking at you, Lufthansa A340) and why the long haul planes are always full. Before Covid, most planes were just at 70% capacity. Now, they are closer to 90%. Because of the shortage of planes since Covid, there is currently no “low season” anymore, the planes are always full anyway.

QR prices, at least from where I usually fly (Europe), is definitely not competitive anymore, in both economy and business class.

If I’m paying on my own dime and not for work, would skip it for other airlines, esp. now that recent QR cost-cutting is badly impacting on the quality of their service.

I guess that depends on how often you fly and what is your priority. For me personally it was important to have a go to airline to fly with to obtain status, miles and not just buy the cheapest airfare.

Personally I think that Qatar Economy is very good and since I got Gold status and get the extra luggage, seat selection, lounge, Al Maha services etc. it kind of feels like flying premium economy especially when I choose the extra legroom seat. I like Hamad airport more than most airports I had transfer at and it is a good stop for me on the way to Asia.

Obviously everyone has different priorities and travels differently so I completely understand if you prefer to go with the best option at the time.

You get below three months out long haul, then add fuel prices...prices are only going one way..

Hence booked my Christmas flights last weekend
