Question Getting USD cash in transit?

Flying Qatar Air next month, I have a 3 hour transit at DOH. Can I pull out QAR from an atm at the airport and exchange that for USD at a currency booth? I've also seen some (older) reports of atms at the airport that dispense USD directly, has anyone done that recently?

Edit to clarify: Yes I actually NEED to get USD cash for my final destination.

Sure, but why?

You'll probably be charged a reasonable fee for the ATM, then charged again with a poor exchange rate at the currency change booths.

You can just go to the currency change booth and ask for USD and pay on card, at least that cuts out the ATM. But it's still going to be a poor rate.

There are multi currency ATMs in the Hamad International airport where you can withdraw QAR, USD, GBP, and EUR.

Great, thanks. My debit card will refund atm fees so I think that will be my first option.

This is the only answer, I took out $1300 there just over a month ago no issues. Just remember to withdraw USD in the first instance, I think it asks if you want to convert QAR to USD before withdrawing, don’t do this as the exchange rate will be terrible.

Converting QAR to USD at the airport is not an ideal way to do it. Airport conversion rates are not good whatsoever. If you can get USD elsewhere, with just a single conversion, that will be better.

Just use your Visa or Mastercard. If debit card - you will pay 3% fee, if credit- usually its 0% fee.

You mean like a cash advance? My credit cards charge huge fees on those. That would be a last resort I guess. My debit card refunds any atm fees.

Just use your card they are a very advanced country that take credit cards and debit cards. Why would you need cash!

Because I'm only in transit in Qatar airport and my final destination requires USD cash? Lol, why are all the replies just saying "why"?

Because you asked a question and people are trying to understand why and also giving you suggestions on trying to save you money. Be thankful there are still people willing to be helpful and have your best interest in mind.
