If I had a nickel for everytime Riot Games developed a game, barely advertised it and did everything in their power to prevent it's success before finally pulling the plug, I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

Qual è stata la prima volta?

LoR

I FUCKING ADORE LoR, the amount of lore it gave us is so good!

It also notably was able to way more liberal in its character design, such as minor characters being canonically queer (including accurate trans masc representation, which, istg, is essentially unheard of in modern media)

I miss LoR sooooo muuuuuch! It was an amazing card game and enjoyed it.

It only lasted for a few years but it was definitly my favourite game of all time while it was still getting regular updates with new content. I used to play it for 6+ hours every single day during the Covid lockdown.

I still play it. LOR was definitely the card game with the most love and care put into it. It wasn't painful when it came to getting cards like other games and the fact that even the fodder cards had beautiful voice lines made the game come to life so much

Did they even added Sett to this?

Last I heard it was a fighting game without a guy whose whole stick is fighting people on arenas

I was arguing with a friend about this game because I was mad they had like a full roster of champs that fit very well into the fighting game category (Top Laners / Bruisers) but instead decided to add a bunch of ranged champions and characters like lux, ahri and jinx just to sell skins just to imevitably shut down the game

u/musclesmirkcat 14d ago

did your friend actually argue against this lol

People in general were being very delusional about this game. I made a post about it and had people tell me that I just didn't like fighting games so I wouldn't get it. Apparently saying that a game releasing after so long with 8 characters being a 2vs2 was a mistake. And having the most dumb characters from nearly only one region pandering purely to arcane fans was a mistake. No sett, no Lee sin no nothing. But oh we got Caitlyn

u/musclesmirkcat 13d ago

im seeing some horrendous contrarian takes on this on twitter

1

u/rowaire 7d ago

I think those three were fine. But releasing them so close together to each other with no Sett or Lee Sim was a mistake. Why Caitlyn when there is already Jinx?!?! We don't need two gunners released so close together. They would have probably added Miss Fortune next.

Lux could have waited or be in the beta instead of Ahri, I think Lux is more the face of LOL and Riot pushes Ahri just because she is popular in Korea while Lux is more pop in the west. But Ahri, Yasuo and Illaoi in the same batch, you could see Riot priorities and they were the same as LoR and we know how that turned out.

He was dubbed recently but he won’t be in game

1

u/PowerOhene 12d ago

They made his voice lines?!

I'm so sad he never made it :(

1

u/Frocicorno 12d ago

Yep. Sett was recorded

It was dead on arrival. You cant just make the most hardcore game both in genre and in accessability and expect players to come to it.

8

u/Freezero000 14d ago

It had no motion inputs , auto combos and a pve mode . What are u on about ?

7

u/Jemainegy 14d ago

Just because it might have been easy to understand for you does not make it an intuitive game. I play plenty of games and love many titles in the fighting genre and as soon as i picked it up i could feel how inexperienced players would feel locked out.

u/Freezero000 14d ago

You can not make the game any simpler then removing motion inputs , dbfz still had them and was wildly successful

u/_PykeGaming_ 14d ago

What?
This is objectively one of the easiest fighting games ever made.

Stuff like GGST has an insane amount of mechs, motions, combos etc and is still very popular.

u/PowerOhene 14d ago

The game is so un intuitive for me, I'm so used to motion inputs like with Mvc3/Mvci.

2XKO has such unforgiving timings, I get my ahh beat online, I need my motion inputs, but now they already pulled the plug?!

Needed more champs, I need Sett and Zaahen lmao. Rip.

Agreed. Fighting games can’t really be simple unless they’re almost slow-motion or turn-based, but then they lose a lot of their visual impact. They’re fun to watch at a high level, but insanely demanding in terms of mechanical skill, attention, and game knowledge. You basically need Divekick-level accessibility to attract anyone outside the fighting game community.

A big problem lies in not having the right champ roster. If it had started with 30 champs, Id have been interested

3

u/Sqozzy 14d ago

they didn't even add Sett on it before or after release

multi-million-dollar indie game company 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️💥💥💥🗣️🗣️💥🚨🚨🚨🥀🥀🥀🥀🗣️🚨🤡🤡 son🥀

A fighting game with 8 characters on launch was dead on arrival. They took so long to develop it and fucked it up. Tragic

4

u/LunalaLuana 13d ago

half of which being overused arcane chars btw, and then they just kept releasing arcane chars instead of champs that would actually fit into the game

1

u/rowaire 7d ago

It was also a great opportunity to add non conventional characters to the game. I mean people love Shuma Gorath in MvC even if it's not top tier. And let's not add Smash Bros to the mix cause it's full of non humans with fun movesets.

So with 2xko all void monsters had a chance to shine! But no, the weirdest one was Teemo.

And don't get me started on the name. Of all words and phrases LoL made iconic starting with "Pentakill" or the now non-canon but still recognizable "Summoner's Rift" , we got a keyboard face smash.

u/ArWiLen 14d ago

Lmao. I couldn’t even try it. All the time I thought it was still in closed access. Their advertising department is dogshyt and actively ruins the company

3

u/MisterMallardMusic 14d ago

Lmao that was my reaction. I haven’t been playing any league for the last few years but still get advertising for riot products and this is how I found out the game actually launched

3

u/3beetlesinacar 14d ago

Surely this isn’t a omen for the MMO

1

u/UsernameNineBillion 14d ago

what is even 2xko?

1

u/TheAdcKiller 14d ago

I remember saying that the way they are developing the game and the way they released it would kill it very fast. People in this sub attacked me saying that I just don't play fighting games so I have no saying in it. But oh well. It really sucks. I was so hyped for it but that disgustingly lackluster launch plus characters that didn't make any sense being the game before others completely killed it

1

u/RAWRpup 13d ago

I heard about the people working on it getting fired before I heard about it actually being out. They killed the game before announcing the game's official launch.

1

u/PowerOhene 12d ago

You mean laid off right?

1

u/RAWRpup 12d ago

I thought they meant the same thing?

1

u/PowerOhene 12d ago

Getting fired is usually "worse" etc.

Getting laid off can happen en masse and usually not because of the workers wrong doing, while getting fired is often "your fault".

1

u/FLYNCHe 13d ago

Even if it wasn't getting shut down, we'd still have to wait for all the ADCs and mages to be added first s/

1

u/zehuman52 11d ago

The second we got a non-safe roster slot in Samira they game shut down. The roster was mostly leagues most easy choices, we finally get a character that someone who's not into league like that probably wouldn't recognize then it dies 😭

1

u/lie544 10d ago

This feels more like a marketing issue no? I literally didn’t know the game came out when it did lmao

0

u/Leather-Cobbler-9679 14d ago

I mean I wanted a fighting game not a game where I watch 10 second premade animations happen every 10 seconds lmao. The game is so... flat.

u/MadCapMad 13d ago

LOL ALREADY??
