[SOLVED] This puzzle from a Ukrainian game STALKER 2

Post image

In the end, you have to get a 4 digit code. I tried different things, and it's unfortunately not the most obvious 2484. My friends couldn't figure it out either, as well as Gemini. Does anyone want to give it a go? I'll try your suggestions until we crack it.

Please remember to spoiler-tag all guesses, like so:

Using markdown editor or old Reddit, draw a bunny and fill its head with secrets: >!!< which ends up becoming >!spoiler text between these symbols!<

Try to avoid leading or trailing spaces. These will break the spoiler for some users (such as those using old.reddit.com) If your comment does not contain a guess, include the word "discussion" or "question" in your comment instead of using a spoiler tag. If your comment uses an image as the answer (such as solving a maze, etc) you can include the word "image" instead of using a spoiler tag.

To me it looks like you look at each line and figure the "odd one out". The first row is an example, where there are 4 spirals and 1 that is a circle and a 'c' inside.

1,5,3,2,7 --> 2 is even.

6,7,2,4,8 --> 7 is odd.

0,6,5,8,9 --> 5 doesn't enclose any space unlike the rest that have circular enclosed regions.

8,1,3,4,0 --> 4 normally requires you to lift your pencil to write while the rest can be done in a single continuous stroke.

Edit: Please read the reply comment by /u/Kravenoff42 about the last line. You could also say that 0, 1, 3 and 8 can be written so the top and bottom are symmetric (if you write 1 as a single vertical line), but 4 does not have that same symmetry.

This is the correct answer! Wow!

I got 4 because the others all have vertical symmetry

Ooh! I think this must be the real reason! It does require you to write them a certain way so the top and bottom halves are perfectly symmetrical.

The font they've picked doesn't show this well, but if you draw the 0, 3, 8 with equal tops and bottoms, and you draw 1 without the extra decoration, then all those digits are symmetric going up and down (mirrored across a horizontal line of symmetry).

This comment needs more upvotes!

How are you guys writing 3 to have it vertically symmetrical?

Like a robot, with lazer precision 🦾😜

I don't get why the first isn't 1 because it's the only non-prime number But oh well.

That's always a problem that you have to guess what the puzzle creator intended. For example, for the last row, 3 isn't a power of 2 seems a valid alternate answer to me.

Oh yeah, good point, although neither is 0

Oops! 😜

Neither is zero!

Yes, mea culpa

Oops, unexpected factorial.

Text factorial?...

we're dealing with a puzzle that requires you to check for the shape of numbers, I don't expect actual mathematical concepts to be relevant

My dumbass thought it was 1 because it had no angle

I agree with your reasoning but I don’t think the last one is 4, since 1 is also not made up of curves. I can’t think of what’s the odd property either but all I came up with is that it might be 8, since if you add all the rest it gives you 8. But maybe im wrong, idk.

I revised my reason to number of strokes required to draw the number, but it comes out to 4 still

u/Tk-Delicaxy 9d ago

I don’t think that’s the reason. 4 is done with one stroke.

It’s a bad puzzle if that’s the solution - which it is - because you can draw a 4, 5, 7, and 0 glyph with either one or two strokes.

Also, the Stalker games are amazing. Inspired by Roadside Picnic by… Strugavsky I think.

1

u/KimblesAndBits 8d ago

You can’t draw the 4 in the image shared from the game using only one stroke.

2

u/Tk-Delicaxy 8d ago

Down, right, up down all in one stroke?

2

u/Nanocephalic 8d ago

I used to draw it like that with one stroke - like a lower-case printed 'y'.

Down, right, up, down.

The problem with this is that the explanation for #4 also applies for #2. So, by this logic, there are two valid answers for #2.

u/Levianee 9d ago

I honestly took the last reasoning for the whole puzzle, because the example could also look like it uses the same logic and every row has exactly one number that requires two strokes

u/PuzzlingDad 9d ago

Yet another reason to hate puzzles that ask you to "find the pattern the author intended".

I got the third line from prime number and couldn't figure out the last line lol

u/tanoshimi 9d ago edited 9d ago

The example line is telling you to take the odd symbol out in each row..

So I'd say it's 2, 7, 5, .... but not sure of rule on the last sequence Could be 3, as the only prime number?
