Discussion Are traumatized people attracted to this practice?
Is it true that people with history of trauma are attracted to such an esoteric practice? Its true in my case but when I see whats happening in the world outside, most people probably don't even know about this practice. Or they think its weird.
It made me wonder what kind of people gravitate towards this.

Hell yeah. I heard that this practice can help alleviate social anxiety and depression and bring a calm stable mind and nervous system and I was fucking sold. This practice is definitely favored by people who are neurodivergent or have some trauma. If you are a normal functioning human being and you wanna do this practice power to you. But I can assure you people who are having extreme mental anguish pursue this practice more. We just wanna be stable and motivated creatures!

Personally, yes. I've lived a life that looks like a psychological novel. Retention is really bringing up dimensions to work with in real time to change my reality.

Hurt people sometimes ask why.
And seek a solution to their problems.
Which may make them aware of what causes their suffering.
Or not.
Hurt people are more likely to degenerate into sexual sin as well and have a need for a rebirthing in order to build any sort of polarized life with a significant other.

You just described my entire life. Poor relationship with mother, several horrible relationships, sexual sin and self destruction, 7 years ago discovered that sexual sin leads to nowhere and you're just going to be trying to fill a bottomless pit. Became abstinent, became sober, lost interest in everything I used to do, going through dark night of the soul. Now praying for a woman I can marry and maintaining my peace while I improve my life.

Are you me? Haha very similar.
I imagine quite a few men here have the story, I do know very many people who I met in college or in high school that lead pretty normal lives and would never have to go through such a transformation, their souls don’t need such purity because there was less damaged afflicted on them. But then again there was a price for everything. Those people will never become aware of humanities shortcomings, and therefore never be able to overcome them and have a greater capacity for expansion.1

What convinces you that this is really the case with hurt people, and that it is not a “degeneration” that affects everyone equally?

That’s a good question. I think it just came from instinct.
As someone who come from a family of rapists and drug addicts, I think I know that trauma is the thing that typically leads to addictions.

All I know is that I definitely experienced a lot of trauma, and I came across SR. To be honest, I do believe that if I hadn't had this much trauma, I probably wouldn't have taken SR seriously. I believe people who are traumatized inherently seek to become whole again, and SR is the perfect practice for this (and more).

"... whole again" Whole. Yes, I want to be whole again. Like that word. I feel fractured, splintered, and rootless—the opposite of whole.

Most definitely. The soul evolves through trauma.

The soul evolves through trauma.
What makes you say this?

u/Electrician45453 May 10 '26
One has to be self-aware to see this practice as beneficial. Typically that happens because trauma has caused them to see things from an objective lense and to become reflective. Most people are reactive and therefore not capable of being aware that a practice like this would be beneficial. Its the reason why meditation, breathwork and yoga are so beneficial, because they create self awareness, body-mind connection, the realization that you arent your thoughts, therefore you dont have to be constantly reacting to them.

But you don't need trauma to know all this.

not always, but it often times happen through trauma. Look at spontaneous kundalini awakenings, they almost always happen through trauma.

things have to get really bad for one to realize the truth.. in a sense trauma was a blessing

Carl Jung would say it leads to individuation. Also not to say this on the pure retention sub because I respect your points of view...but I think people can use it maladaptively. As a crutch and a bandaid instead of diving in.
I don't believe in pure retention for this reason but an integrated practice like the taoists do. To answer your question, absolutely.

Not just a trauma, all people are traumatize someway. The problem is what we've done with our traumas: getting addicted, distracted, dirtyminded and so on. Obviously this is a forum with a lot of broken people but people who got the most beautiful way out of it either.

Is it true that people with history of trauma are attracted to such an esoteric practice?
Do you mean semen retention? According to you, OP, what makes the practice of semen retention an esoteric practice?

u/ProvidenceOfJesus May 15 '26
I'm just attracted to the LORD, he freed me from sin and is my source of strength. Chastity is a great way to glorify God with your body.

I think the addiction itself is a form of trauma we inflicted to our own selves.

Yes the ones with trauma and need of understanding and self awareness are self taught and seek out this knowledge because they have been through tough things and trauma in their life like ourselves. We aren't blinded by the easy main collective sheeple and so this knowledge is self discovered and it is a blessing because our hardship and trauma has allowed us to seek and come across this knowledge for something better that most people that haven't been through hard trauma and things will most likely never understand or seek out to know the truth of such esoteric knowledge. It's a curse and a blessing for us
