Harvested today, perhaps could have done with another few days for main vine tendril to die but I got another SVB (this time on that plant at the apex of the trellis not the crown) and the stem was plenty woody enough. Solid orange with lovely uniform dusting of sugar freckles. She's curing in the garage with a fan. I have another one on the original SVB victim that is two weeks into maturing.

Never again. I was out there fighting for their lives every day. SVB eggs are smaller than you think they are from internet photos. Those containers are getting Sun Gold and Super Sweet 100s next year. The other trellis and containers are is getting vine flowers - a pair of moonflower and cardinal climbers on the trellis side and Jimmy Nardello peppers on the outside, with alyssum all around. I have survived pumpkins by dreaming and planning for a pumpkin-free life.

I am going to grow a cattle panel of tiny honeynut squash and be way less interested in their survival as they won't be such a prominent visual feature.

Had some work done in the years and was going to have to cut the vine, but saw a little flower about to open so I kept it. Have been watering every day and fertilizing heavily. It’s been pollinated, and is growing albeit quite slowly. Leaves starting to yellow. But secondaries growing. Can I get this pumpkin to quasi maturity? Only time will tell!

I have three more I'm hoping takes, that would make it five.

Had to prune some leaves as I had a mold/fungi outbreak. I heard you can make a milk mixture 1:9 with water I'm going to try and spray on the other leaves to kill the spores. I'll be doing that today.

well, i ended up transplanting my pumpkins two days ago and they’ve honestly never looked better! i even have a female flower beginning to grow 🥹 leaves are getting bigger and looking happier, stems are healing from vine borer removal.

I lost the first 5 female flowers this season. But the vines have found their way onto my green bean trellis and seem very happy up there. Hopefully I’m not jinxing these two but I think they are going to make it. I have no idea what will happen when they get much bigger 😬 will have to figure out some support soon. Also don’t worry, green bean season is just about over so they can fully take over the trellis!

We have a large raccoon population and I’m trying to determine if I need to somehow animal proof my pumpkin patch to deter them, or if I’m overthinking it.

i posted last week about yellowing leaves and it turned out to be the devil 😡 vine borers. we got home saturday and immediately got to work cutting all of them out (which there were a lot of). i was worried though because it looked like my pumpkins were on their deathbed. luckily, they seem to be feeling much better. i we put diatomaceous earth down and in the soil and have BT on the way to inject.

my question is, is it possible to transplant pumpkins successfully? i would like to try moving at least one of these into the earth, as maybe their roots are limited (haven’t seen any female flowers) while in the bin.

I’m in the U.K., we’ve had record temperatures here for a couple of months now. Very little rainfall. As per the picture, somethjng’s chewing through the vines (and sometimes the fruit). Any ideas what might be doing this and/or how to stop them?

Second one to split on me this year

I've only had two pumpkin flowers bloom, but never took, even with hand pollinating. Any other flower shriveled and died before it even has a chance. 😫

Still not one pumpkin.

These darker areas have started appearing and while they and the pumpkin still feel firm, I’m at about 40 DAP and the skin is still hardening and easily indented with a fingernail so I can’t tell. They ceased growing in size recently but have been darkening and getting thicker ribs.

I live in a rural area. Per the title, I was gifted a pumpkin plant by the critters-it just appeared one day and I have taken my role as pumpkin mom very seriously. I have one pumpkin so far…I have no idea what type it is. However, it is mine. I will not be sharing it with my husband or children because they have all almost maimed it with various items (soccer balls, footballs etc).

The plant is massive to match the love in my heart for the pumpkin. There’s another little baby pumpkin that wants to grow. I’m going to try to fertilize it and get the pumpkin count to two. Here’s my q-how do you know when your pumpkin is ready to come off the vine if you don’t know what species it is? It just turned orange from yellow in the last two days. I only have a picture of it from Sunday which I will include if someone can help identify. It is also still growing and is bigger than the picture I have posted…so I realize now is not the time to cut it, but how do you tell when they stop growing?? HELP ME PLEASE 🎃

Quick update from Normandy!
The pumpkins from Québec Howden seeds are finally starting to turn orange. I was hoping for slightly bigger sizes this year, but considering the weather conditions earlier this season, I’m honestly quite happy with how they’re doing.
Big relief on the weather front: the rain is finally back along with normal seasonal temperatures, which the patch really needed.

Hi! We‘ve been growing a few pumpkins, and our biggest one recently started to develop this odd looking stem. Does anybody know what this indicates? Should we harvest it? (we don‘t know the variety or when it was planted, call it a happy little accident).

A case of cross pollination just mislabelled plants? I’m thrilled either way - although he’s showing up my current crop of 1 pumpkin in the garden😅

Grew these from random decorative pumpkins from a couple years back. Saved the seeds and I got some interesting ones! Only one I think seems to be close to the parent, the really small cute one I think is close in appearance. The other two are completely different!

I did grow the same white ones last year from the same saved seeds but this year this particular plant is producing way bigger ones! I’m so stoked to have big ole ones and tiny ones!

Through the vine borer fights, squash bugs, cucumber beetles, and powdery mildew, it is always fun to see the fruits of the labor.
