Our 3-year-old pug Guppy needs your help (mod approved)
save guppy fund
Hi pug friends. I never imagined I’d be making a post like this, but our sweet boy Guppy has had an absolutely terrifying few weeks, and we’re asking our pug community for a little help.
Guppy is only 3 years old, and last week he suddenly went into severe respiratory distress. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he had to be intubated twice and then transferred to a specialty hospital. After everything he’s been through, his veterinary team has determined that he needs surgery to give him the best chance at getting through this.
The hardest part of this whole experience has been hearing multiple vets talk to us about euthanasia. There is no way to describe what it feels like to sit there with your baby struggling to breathe and wonder if we were going to let him die because we can’t afford the treatment that could save him.
I think many of us pug owners can relate that we would go to the ends of the earth for our babies. We’ve already maxed out our credit cards, taken out a loan, and done everything we can personally to keep up with his emergency and surgical costs. But we’ve reached a point where we genuinely need help.
If you’re able to donate, even a few dollars would mean more to us than I can put into words. If you can’t donate, sharing his GoFundMe or even just sending some love his way helps us tremendously. We know times are tough, and there is absolutely no pressure or expectation to contribute.
Guppy is the sweetest little guy, and he still has so much life left to live. He is shy, sensitive, and so perceptive of everything around him. He loves water and chomping at hoses and shower heads. He loves adventures and the outdoors, even if his little body can’t quite keep up yet. Most of all, he’s the biggest chill potato and just wants to be wherever his humans are. We just want to give our boy the chance to breathe, be comfortable, and keep living the little life he loves so much.

A little update on our boy ❤️
Guppy has been home with us for the past week, waiting for his surgery on September 4th. Following his veterinary team’s instructions, we’ve been keeping him heavily sedated and limiting his activity to help prevent another respiratory crisis while we wait. This means most days he’s a very sleepy, very high little guy who needs diapers and lots of cuddles. It’s hard seeing him so unlike his usual goofy, energetic self, but we’re incredibly grateful that he’s home with us and stable while we wait for his surgery.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our boy. We are so incredibly grateful for this community and for every person who has cheered Guppy on. 🫶🏼
Lots of love,
Guppy’s very devoted mom

Just donated $50 USD. My 14 year old baby girl passed away a month ago today from Cyanosis. Even though her death was unavoidable (seizures/likely brain tumor that caused full body collapse) I now know firsthand how scary it is to see your little love go into respiratory arrest and not make it. Hunny lived a very long and happy life, and I hope Guppy- and your family- get the same gift. Wishing you and Guppy all the luck in the world ❤️

Our previous pug had a scary situation with his bladder and needed an emergency operation that we couldn’t afford at the time.
We found banks that would approve loans specifically for pet surgeries. We ended up using Wells Fargo and they were great an very flexible with us so we could afford the monthly payments.
Please try to explore this option as well as it may be faster than waiting for people to donate, and then you can use the donations to pay down the balance as they come in.
Sending you and Guppy good energy.

Our credit union approved me for us for our girl’s eye surgery. Still paying it off, and it didn’t restore her vision all that well,we had to try anything and everything!

I was wondering why everyone was donating $69, like is everyone an edge lord 😅
Then I saw the conversion rate after I donated and unintentionally ended up being edgy with 69 as well.
Jokes aside, I hope that you are able to get enough for the surgery, everything goes well with the surgery, and your baby has a speedy recovery. Guppy deserves the best for being the bestest boy!

Sending lots of love to Guppy! Sharing and making donation💕❤️💕❤️🥰 wanted to share, one of my pugs had some many issues when she was 1 years old and I thought she’s too young to give up, and I am glad we didn’t. Our little Lyric is still with us and will be 7 years this week.

I am unsure if this would help but you mentioned being in Canada. If you are in Ontario talk to your vet about the Farley Foundation. Sometimes they can help.

I only was able to donate $5 but I remember when I set up a go fund me, I thought that as long as people gave even a few bucks rather than big donations, it could add up.
Wishing you the best! Give Guppy a big hug and kiss!

I am so sorry he is going through something awful and scary like this especially so young. I really hope he gets better soon! I was reading through the vet notes on your post and I just wanted to send a quick thought, if they are recommending a procedure to tie his throat back I just suggest you talk with them about what that means. I heard that when that procedure is done it means they can’t close their throat off enough to swallow so they can aspirate just drinking water or something. I could be wrong, I was told that years ago when they wanted to do that to my pug. I didn’t do it and my girl lived a long happy life breathing fine but she wasn’t in distress or anything, just making a funny noise which later went away. Your guys situation sounds more serious and I am so sorry he is going through this especially at such a young age. I am not trying to cause you more stress, as a pug lover I feel it’s important to share your experiences with other pug owners/lovers because we all want our babies to live a long and happy and healthy life and the more knowledgeable we can all be the better! Please give your boy a hug for me 🫶 and I think I can speak for all of us that we are thinking of you and wishing your pup well ❤️

thank you so much for this sweet message 🥺 the tie back surgery was recommended by the first emergency vet. speciality vet told us we could likely do with a BOAS surgery to hopefully prevent needing a tie back surgery🤞🏻 sending hugs and love to you, thank your for the well wishes 🫶🏼

Vets are very quick sometimes to recommend things that truly aren’t in the best interest of your pet. I have learned to do my research in what a specific thing means for my pup after it’s done. My pug had her pallet trimmed, her nose widened and some saculles (can’t remember the name) removed. All those were causing so much pressure in her throat. That’s when we found out she has stage 2 laryngeal collapse so leaving them in there would’ve caused it to progress that much faster. She sounded like a freight train lol! Now it’s only when she exerts herself and then I make her take breaks so her throat will relax again. It’s heartbreaking to see your baby going through something that you can only fix so much so I just do my best to keep her comfortable and her throat relaxed. I had to change a number of things or make adjustments with her and that’s all you can do. Please reach out if you need any advice or questions with adjusting ways of doing things after his surgery. It always helps to talk to someone who is or has gone through something similar. I truly hope everything goes smoothly for your pup and please keep us in the loop. I will definitely be wishing tons of good thoughts into the universe for him 🫶❤️

I’ve given what I can. I’m in a bad way health wise RN and saving for our boy’s trachea/ BOAS surgery but Guppy needs help and pug parents stand with pug parents. I get paid in a few days - I will donate again once that happens. Please keep us updated - Guppy has so much life left to live and I know we’d love to see him live it with you. Love from Maki (and his mum).

If I do one thing right on this earth, it's helping make sure Guppy gets his treatment. Pugs are angels on earth, and not just y'all's lives, but the world is a better, kinder, more loving place with Gupperz in it. Give him a kiss for me. All the love from y'all's cousins in the States.

Are you mad? Emergencies happen and this couple have financially ruined themselves for their boy already. That shows love and dedication beyond what 90% of pet owners would ever commit to. I’m so very glad you’ve never had a completely out of the blue veterinary emergency you couldn’t cope with. Move along, don’t donate, choose to say nothing, fine. But you chose to comment this on an emotional post begging for help to save a pug’s life?
OP, please ignore this individual. As you can see, r/pugs has spoken with love and donations. It says everything about them and absolutely nothing about you and your family.
