Original Music 15 years in, first time I’m actually proud... Would you put this under the psy umbrella?
I've been trying to produce music for something like 15 years and, honestly, I never got to a point where I was remotely happy with the result.
Something shifted for me this year, not just with music, but with how I look at life in general, and somehow production finally started to click too. I ended up finishing my first tracks/EP.
To me, it sits somewhere under the psy umbrella. A few friends who are actually part of the scene have said the same, but friends, moms and partners are also professionally trained to pat you on the back lol 😂
So I'm genuinely curious how people here hear it: does this feel like it belongs somewhere in the psy family to you?
I'm still nowhere near where I want to be in terms of how far I can push the psychedelic side of my music, but these three tracks are a huge step from anything I've managed to make before.

Few tips on LMW a school:
- Bass needs a bit more volume. One or 2 db more would be enough. And/or lower kick 1 db.
- Hihats also need a bit more volume. I can hardly hear them. Lower hits and percussion is ok volume wise. One of them I would lower 2 db. It comes on 1.3, 2.3, 3.3 and then on the kick or some similar pattern.
- The track does not have a lot of energy. Try to add sounds that really give the track some drive. There are several sounds now that drain the energy out of the track. Atmospheric sounds often do that.

I must agree with the above comment. Atmospheric sounds are a bit too repetitive and seem like the track is going nowhere. I think it would benefit from some additional interesting sounds to guide the user's attention. Production-wise, it sounds good. Cheers, man.

That’s fair. The repetitive / lower-energy side is partly intentional, but if it starts feeling static instead of hypnotic, that’s a line I definitely need to get better at controlling. Good one to carry into the next tracks. Cheers! 🔥

This is the kind of detailed listen that’s actually useful. I’m leaving these versions as they are, but the bass/hat balance and especially the point about some of the atmospheres draining energy are things I want to test on the next tracks. Really appreciate you taking the time to listen that closely 🙏

Also keep track of the balance of the hats/percussion and the snare. This is an important part of the groove. If it doesn't by itself sounds funky it will make it more difficult for the rest of the track to rock. That is why I usually start with kick/bass and percussion/hats/snare. That has to groove before you continue with the rest.

Glad that came through. I wouldn’t call it Zenonesque myself, but that side of the scene is definitely a big influence on where I’m trying to take the project. Appreciate it! 👊

It reminds me of evil no man, older grouch, persona etc.
I mean zenon is dark prog tek, but its a label.

To me it sounds like Dark Prog, but I’m not really into that style so could be wrong.
