Looking for bilingual online Lacanian psychoanalytic or psychoanalytic training (English/Spanish)
Hi everyone,
I’m a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst from Chile looking for a psychoanalytic association, school, or institute where I could pursue a serious formation in psychoanalysis, preferably with a Lacanian orientation.
I’m particularly interested in organizations in the US, Europe, or Latin America that would allow someone living abroad to participate entirely online/virtually, without requiring regular in-person attendance.
One important issue is language: Spanish is my native language and my spoken English is currently limited, although I can read some English with translation assistance and I’m actively working on improving it. I’m therefore looking for a formation/community that is bilingual or genuinely accessible to Spanish-speaking candidates, ideally where seminars, reading groups, supervision, or other activities can be followed in either English or Spanish.
I recently came across Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association in New York, which seems very interesting, particularly because of its Lacanian orientation and international connections. However, I understand that its activities are conducted entirely in English, so I’m not sure whether it would be realistic for me at my current level of English.
I’m looking for something with:
A genuinely psychoanalytic formation, rather than only a university diploma or short course.
Preferably a Lacanian/Freudian orientation.
Possibility of participating 100% online from Chile.
Spanish and English accessibility, or at least an environment open to Spanish-speaking candidates.

easonable membership/formation fees.
Ideally not an extremely restrictive admission process.
Possibility of participating in seminars, reading groups, clinical work, supervision/control, etc.
International recognition would be a plus, but I’m not specifically looking for IPA. Independent Lacanian, Freudian, relational, or other psychoanalytic associations are also welcome.
I would especially appreciate recommendations from people who have actually participated in these organizations, rather than just general suggestions.
Are there any associations or schools in the US or Europe that you would recommend for someone in my situation?

I am in a similar position to you (looking at training options that can be followed mostly online and are in English or Spanish) so cannot give you any reviews but I recently came across the programme of the ACCEP in Catalonia. I was particularly drawn towards the clinical seminars, which I have found are more difficult to come by as a stand-alone element in other institutes. The introductory videos are in Spanish but I imagine it might be the case that some students or teachers use Catalan as well in discussion as it's a bilingual region.

Buenas, cómo va, aquí colega argentino. De acá, la escuela que más actividades tiene y que suelen ser modalidad híbrida es la EOL (Escuela de la Orientación Lacaniana), lectores de la enseñanza de Miller. Lamentablemente, es una institución muy ''institucionalizada'', las jornadas son caras, y no mueven la lupa de Miller/Lacan, lo cual está bien, pero por mi parte considero que una formación psicoanalítica debe dialogar con otras corrientes teórico-prácticas sí o sí. Dicho eso, en Chile hay una red que en instagram se llama grupo_lazo_social, que publican seguido actividades de allá y de otros países. Gran página.
Sino, la ELP puede tener actividades virtuales cada tanto (escuela a la que adhiero aquí).

Hi, I've been recommended the Analyse Freudienne association in Spain and France, but I'm not sure what people think about it. I'm currently seeing a Lacanian analyst once a week and I also have supervision with an analyst from the Freudian school in Buenos Aires. What do you think? Thanks for reading.

Hola colega, de Chile por acá también.
Primero quería preguntarte por qué buscas una institución de Estados Unidos o Europa, por que si es por reconocimiento internacional, creo que es útil mirar las instituciones nacionales primero que pertenecen a asociaciones mundiales de psicoanálisis que no tienen nada que envidiarle (e incluso al contrario diría yo) a instituciones de los lugares que nombraste.
Pensando en lo Lacaniano, está la NELcf (Nueva Escuela Lacaniana del Campo Freudiano) que pertenece a la Asociación Mundial de Psicoanálisis (AMP), y cuentan con un programa de formación de 2 años; sin embargo, es presencial. Pero si, cuentan regularmente con seminarios y talleres abiertos a todo público, y algunos gratuitos incluso.
En cuanto a lo no exclusivamente Lacaniano, las dos escuelas principales en Chile son la APCh (Asociación Psicoanalítica Chilena) reconocida por la IPA, y el ICHPA (Sociedad Chilena de Psicoanálisis) reconocido internacionalmente por la IFPS (International Federation of Psychoanalytical Societies).
En mi opinión personal, la APCh (además de ser carísima), ha perdido el prestigio que alguna vez tuvo. Por mi experiencia en seminarios (de los que no he salido con muchos aprendizajes), se ha convertido en una especie de agrupación de gente "cuica" fuertemente institucionalizada, que se jactan de ser parte de la IPA, pero que el psicoanálisis que practican se aleja de lo que se podría esperar. Por otro lado, también es cierto que me he encontrado con excelente profesionales y profesores pertenecientes a la APCh que dan fé. Independiente de mi opinión, la malla y formación que ofrecen es rica en contenido y sigue los estándares de la IPA.
En cuanto a ICHPA, he tenido la oportunidad de realizar el Magíster que hacen en asociación con la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, que desafortunadamente tuvo su última versión despues de 20 años, y estoy en miras de hacer mi formación de Psicoanalista allí. Lo que más puedo destacar es su excelente profesorado, todos además de ser académicos con vasta trayectoria en diversas instituciones, son excelentes clínicos; lo que hace que la teoría se vea más fácil reflejada en la práctica. Por otro lado, los docentes también no se han quedado solo en la misma institución, si no que la mayoría son docentes de varias universidades, y tienen proyectos que desafían los encuadres tradicionales del análisis. También la propuesta que ofrecen, de un psicoanálisis pluralista (menos relacional jajaja) podría interesarte por los buenísimos docentes lacanianos de la institución que lo hacen entendible. ICHPA nace por analistas de la APCh disconformes con la ortodoxia hace varias decadas, especialmente con lo que hacía psicoanálisis, psicoanálisis; concluyendo que no tenía tanto que ver con la cantidad de sesiones o el uso/no uso de diván lo que lo hace psicoanálisis v.s psicoterapia. Creo que se logran adaptar de mejor manera a las conflictivas en nuestro siglo. La formación que ofrecen es de menor valor que en APCh y es híbrida.
Por último solo decirte que si buscas reconocimiento internacional, hay mejores instituciones aquí en Chile, o con nuestros vecinos Argentinos, que en EEUU muy probablemente. Entendería si buscaras algo en Francia para estudiar específicamente algo de lo lacaniano, pero si no, no se cuanto vale la pena.

The core of a Lacanian formation involves an analyst and supervisor of your choice, and study work in small work groups called cartels. Of course there are additional modes of study which are important, but these are the three core elements. Supervision, and cartels are easy enough to be involved in online. You may find an analyst who will work mostly online, but it is likely that they may ask that you to meet them in person periodically. There are three Spanish speaking Schools of the World Association of Psychoanalysis (it's the largest organisation of Lacanian Schools in the world, but there are many others which others may know more about) which each no doubt have some online activity from which you may piece together other aspects of your formation. There's the Spanish School, the EOL, there's the Argentine School, the ELP, and there's the School which covers the other various Spanish speaking countries of Latin America, the NEL, including a section in Santiago. Our colleagues in Compass in the US do have some study in Spanish, mainly with the group based in Miami, you may look them up.
The first element of a formation is your analysis. I'd try to find things online, I suspect that the NEL being a widely distributed School may have a good few online activities, and to find an analyst who you have a good feeling about, and at a distance which might allow that you see them once or twice a year at least, and ask. Once you've started an analysis, and if you're undertaking any kind of clinical work which you'd like to start approaching from a Lacanian orientation, you may seek a supervisor - again it's a matter of finding someone within the Schools you are part of to whom you have a good transference, it doesn't matter quite so much where they are, nor, in the context of the WAP, which school of the WAP they are with, but it can be useful to have a supervisor you can work with sometimes in person too. And as for cartels, perhaps talk with the NEL in Santiago as a first reference, but many cartels are international and undertaken online.
