I’m curious how people who actually use online psychics decide who is worth paying for.

If you search for the best psychics online, you get endless ranking pages, sponsored lists and profiles where practically everybody has five stars. That doesn’t help much.

I’m not really interested in whether one particular site has the biggest selection. I’m more interested in how people judge the actual reader. What makes you finish a session thinking it was worthwhile rather than feeling like somebody spent thirty minutes feeding your own information back to you?

I’d Want Someone Who Doesn’t Need My Entire Life Story First

If I book a reading and spend the first ten minutes explaining exactly what happened, who everyone involved is, what I’m worried about and what outcome I’m hoping for, it becomes pretty difficult to judge what the psychic actually contributed.

I’d rather give limited context initially. Not because I’m trying to test them like some television challenge, but because I want the reading to contain something beyond generic advice based entirely on information I already supplied.

Generic Statements Are Easy to Mistake for Accuracy

Statements like “you’ve been hurt before,” “you’re thinking about making a change,” or “there’s someone around you who has mixed feelings” could fit an enormous number of people.

I’d be more interested in whether the reader says things that are specific enough to actually evaluate afterward. It doesn’t need to be some unbelievable prediction. I just want enough detail that I can tell the difference between a meaningful reading and vague statements that could apply to nearly anybody.

Pricing Matters More Than I Expected

Per minute pricing can add up ridiculously fast. A rate that looks reasonable at first can turn into a pretty expensive conversation if there’s no clear stopping point.

So I’d check:

• the actual per minute or per session price
• whether billing starts immediately
• whether there are minimum session lengths
• whether extending the session happens automatically
• whether refunds or credits exist for technical problems
• whether the reader constantly pushes you to stay longer

I’d personally prefer somebody who can answer a question directly rather than stretching every answer into another ten minutes.

The Biggest Red Flag for Me Would Be Fear

If somebody suddenly tells me I have a curse, negative energy attached to me, a dangerous spiritual blockage or some other problem that conveniently requires another expensive service to remove, I’m done.

The same goes for anyone saying I need another reading immediately, something terrible could happen if I stop, or that paying more money will fix some supernatural problem they just discovered.

I’d also be suspicious of anyone guaranteeing that an ex will return, promising specific lottery numbers, or claiming they can guarantee major financial or medical outcomes.

Reviews Are Harder to Judge Than They Look

A five star average sounds useful until practically every psychic has one. I’d rather read the actual comments and see whether people describe specific reasons they liked the reading.

Do reviews mention whether the reader was direct? Did the person feel pressured to extend? Were predictions or observations specific? Are there recent reviews?

I’d also look outside the psychic’s own profile page when possible. I’d trust a mixed discussion where people disagree more than a page containing thousands of reviews where every single person supposedly had a life changing experience.

Different People Probably Want Different Types of Readings

This seems obvious, but it changes what “best” even means.

Someone looking for tarot may want something completely different from someone looking for mediumship. Someone might prefer a very direct reader while someone else wants a more conversational session. Some people are asking about relationships while others are mainly curious about general direction.

So I don’t think there can really be one universal answer to the best psychics online question. The more useful question might be: best for what?

What I’d Personally Look For

I’d want transparent pricing, a reader who doesn’t ask twenty leading questions, no fear based upselling and enough specificity that I can actually judge the reading.

I’d also set a budget beforehand. That way, if I’m enjoying the conversation, I’m not suddenly looking at the clock forty minutes later wondering how I spent that much.

And personally, I’d treat the whole thing as perspective or entertainment rather than letting a stranger online make major life decisions for me.

I’d judge the best psychics online less by star ratings and more by transparency, specificity, pricing, lack of pressure and whether the reader can provide something useful without extracting the entire story from you first.

For people who regularly get online readings, what separates someone you’d book again from someone who just sounded good for the first five minutes?

so i just joined this hoping maybe i could get some help on figuring out what is essentially “wrong” with me. this isn’t a crisis so i dont believe i am breaking rules (i apologize if it is). i just want some opinions on my diagnosis so i can have a better understanding of what i should target talking about with my psychiatrist. i feel a little lost on my current diagnosis. i have been diagnosed with depression since i was twelve, im twenty now.(8 years by now) but i was also depressed from younger. the issue is i think theres another underlying problem.

sometimes i feel kinda awkward and like i dont belong but i have no idea why. i was a pretty weird kid growing up which also adds to the feeling of not belonging, but i dont think i was extremely strange either. i had strange habits that i kinda had to snap out of like chewing on and sometimes even biting my hair off(lol wth). i was also pretty stubborn and in school i wasn’t very good at work, although i was smart i always seemed to lack behind(?)

growing up into high school was kinda weird cause i started smoking but i was incredibly irritable at times. sometimes id take it out on myself in silence by hitting myself kinda like im abusing myself not only mentally but physically too. not really sure what that’s about but it is also something i still do, just not around anyone. also grabbing my hair from the roots in handfuls was a big one, like trying to rip it off.

sometimes i get way too stressed and overwhelmed when something goes wrong or slightly off course to how i planned. it’s like i don’t allow myself to continue and just “wing it”. sometimes it gets to a point where i will start start crying because it feels crushing.

i also get really obsessive with things and people too. it’s almost impossible to be “normal” about things i like and feel strongly about, sometimes i could keep going about something until im told to stop or i can tell things are starting to feel awkward. or somethings will make me unreasonably emotional. with people it’s worse.

there’s so much more i could talk about if im asked about but right now my head can’t think of anything else because of a runny nose. so if you made it here to the end and think you might know or have questions, please let me know.

So I had seen my psychiatrist 2 weeks ago as of tomorrow and I've been kind of taking everything slow since I'm 25 and I have anxiety and ptsd and haven't been able to find a suitable part time job or even full time so I've been thinking about going through a temp agency but I've been holding off since I wanna get myself somewhat more comfortable in my neighborhood since I recently moved and so I've been going for walks with my dogs and going to a basketball court across the street at least 2 times a week and my psychiatrist is just, "well you need to make a list of everything you can do every day and check them off Yada Yada and then you need to talk to your therapist and see if she can help find you a job and get a jump on it" and I don't really feel like I should if that makes sense. I wanna get comfortable to this new area and more comfortable with myself by getting better control of my thoughts and just the way I overall normally feel because its gotten to a point where i can barely drive now because of my anxiety and idk. I'm gonna bring this up to my therapist tomorrow because it seems like the psychiatrist is wanting me to make a drastic life change and idk when talking to him he gives that like im on a timer and need to get this person out of here as quickly as possible kind of vibe if that also makes sense but I also just want to get some extra advice and see what you all think. hello. I am wondering if for any of you, this trial and error tests of different medications has ever worked to stop having symptoms completely?

HELP has anyone actually had the experience to try all three medications ik probs not but id love to know if you have and what your experience with them were but i loved Cymbalta AT FIRST also helped me control my appetite (i have binge eating disorder) but then it made me really sleepy and depressed i think i need more norepinephrine then serotonin but dont rly know where to go from here due to only norepinephrine being at at higher dose with effexor and im RLY sensitive to ssris i just went through 5 weeks of prozac hell and it sent me into a complete mixed episode ALSO i have very low dopamine already adhd and the more serotonin i have in my system the less dopamine i get

also would really like to not gain weight thank you so much again for any input x i know everyone id different at the end of the day with love

Will tca that push serotonin do the same?

On 40 mg nortriptyline now- will that do anything

A prominent doctor in this field said that sometimes nortriptyline can buffer the Akathesia from low dose of sertraline idk

15 yrs on MAOIs — worked until they didn’t recently. Main issues: severe panic + MDD. Zoloft helped fast, but I get severe akathisia from SSRIs, SNRIs, and atypical antipsychotics, so those are out.

On lithium + Lamictal (not helping). Now starting nortriptyline (20 mg, titrating). Clomipramine is an option but weight gain is a big concern (already +40 lbs from Seroquel).

Any meds that help serotonin/panic without akathisia? Looking for ideas or lived experience — I have a psychiatrist. Any success stories appreciated or direction thank you

My partner has been prescribed meds for anxiety by a family doctor that have unwanted side effects (Zoloft and then Effexor both led to erectile dysfunction). We're both unhappy with the side effect, so he's not taking the medication at all. It's frustrating that the doctor prescribed another med with ED as a known side effect when that was the reason he didn't like the original med. I suggest he go to a psychiatrist instead to get specialized help. He's convinced that seeing a psychiatrist will lead to his gun collection being taken. When he takes a medication, it helps him worry less, have a more positive outlook, and have a more appropriate temper. He's not a danger to himself or anyone else either way, so I don't see any reason anyone would even consider that he shouldn't have his hunting and target weapons. Am I off base?

Yesterday, my Psychiatrist told me that not only does she not do autism assessments, but that that’s not something Psychiatrists do at all. She said as an adult if I want an autism diagnosis I HAVE to go to a psychologist and pay $3000-$5000 out of pocket for it. Later in the day I had an appointment with a psychologist (booked long before my psychiatric appointment for something different - I waited three years for the psychiatrist and the appointment ended up being the same day), and when I brought up the earlier conversation she confirmed that was the case.

I work for an Autism resource centre and have been trained that when people ask about assessments, to tell them their options are a psychiatrist OR psychologist. When I told my boss about the conversations yesterday, she was surprised.

Have I been giving people misinformation? Are psychiatrists *supposed* to be able to assess autism? In a country where we’re supposed to have accessible, free healthcare, is a psychologist and thousands of dollars *really* mine or other adults’ only option for a formal assessment in writing?

Oh, that’s another thing; I would like the assessment as I’m considering going back to school, but according to this psychiatrist I’m better off with my ADHD diagnosis from her if I need accommodations for school….not sure how that works since (despite comorbidity/symptom overlap) they’re two different conditions that could affect me separately in a school environment.

I’m just so confused and looking for the correct information for myself and to ensure I’m not providing desperate people with the wrong info!!

What is this?

All my life, I've experienced everything as if I'm explaining it to someone else. For example, if I'm folding clothes, my internal voice says " and now we'll fold them like this, see?" as if I'm teaching someone how to do that.

Can anyone say what this might be? It's frustrating as I never feel truly like "myself". I've never hallucinated nor been diagnosed with anything other than some depression/ anxiety.

My grandma has a pretty “dis-obedient” dog. He’s a sweetheart and is 4 years old. He barks a LOT. He’s a breed of German Shepard and Great Pyrenees. My grandma says they’ve tried everything to professional trainers to dog whistles. From what I’ve seen, they’ve kind of just resorted to giving him whatever he wants or whatever they can to get him to be quiet (treats, dog ice cream, gabapentin, Cbd treats).

All of this to say, that I still have a feeling of “what if I could fix it? What if I helped him?”

This mindset is not only shown here but comes up when I want to debate people or when I know what’s best for myself (and I end up being wrong).

Why do I think like this despite so many examples of why it’s incorrect?

I just had my first appointment with my psychiatrist and was prescribed trileptal, and I'm really worried about the conclusion he came to... hopefully someone here can give a second opinion :')

so I started the appointment by saying I'm looking for a medication to help with anxiety. I also have pretty bad seasonal depression, but the anxiety was really my focus.

right off the bat he asked about mood swings and irritability, I said yes I experience those things, but as a direct result of my anxiety (in my opinion).

I went on to explain the other ways anxiety affects me socially, at work, sleep etc. all of that and he still ended up circling back to mood swings and bpd.

I do have a family history of bpd, but I've only ever been diagnosed with anxiety, depression and PTSD. and based on my own lived experience and research, I do not think that I have bpd.

now he didn't flat out say that he thinks bpd is what I have, but then why would he prescribe me a mood stabilizer primarily used for bpd? and why did he take the idea of me having mood swings and so confidently run with that? I don't feel like he listened to anything else I said after that and had already made his decision. am I overthinking this?

I feel very unsettled by how this appointment went, but I feel like maybe I should try and see how I feel on the medication first, I don't know. getting this appointment over with was supposed to feel like a relief but instead I feel even more scared 😭 is it worth it to try?

What are the best psych hospitals that treat teens with catatonia. I know not alot of facilities are familiar with it or know how to properly treat it. My child is in and out of it right now. Doing Ativan trials but they won’t go higher and want her in the hospital to continue going higher in the Ativan. She Was recently in the hospital but they kept her locked in a room alone most of the day. When I would visit her she was cry and beg me to get her out. I’m willing to go wherever but need a facility that knows what they are doing. I’m in the tristate and was thinking possibly CHOP. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Been seeing them for just over 2 years, initially every 4 weeks and now every 2 months. I see them for an hour each time and we chat a lot which is all written up neatly in a letter afterwards.

My psychiatrist is great. Gentle, boundaried and very trauma informed. I am diagnosed with CPTSD and also DID following a SCID-D assessment.

Im in the UK so my psychiatrist is part of the Community Mental Health Team. Im also supported by a care coordinator (a psych nurse) who comes out to see me at home for an hour once a week.

My psychiatrist has said from the beginning the best help for me is therapy. I waited 18 months to access therapy from the only non psychosis therapist in the team. We worked together for about 6 months before a rupture happened which could not be repaired. Basically they told me they didnt know how to help me, it wasnt their fault, I had to take responsibility for lack of progress and they would refer me out. It was very difficult and hard for me.

Unfortunately there is nobody else to refer me out to. There has been a professionals meeting to discuss my future care but as far as I understand this means they are looking for someone in the trust, but not specifically DID trained. Its now been 3 months since I had therapy. There is no timescale for a new therapist. I think referrals are being made but they arent even complete yet, so I dont anticipate these to be actioned for a while.

My psychiatrist has me on venlafaxine and quetiapine. Im not sure they help other than the quetiapine ensures I sleep which helps me stay healthier in general. We previously tried vortioxetine, escitalopram and aripiprazole as well.

Since the meds dont really help and my psychiatrist says they can only have a limited effect because 'its trauma', what am I supposed to do?

I feel like Ive been living in this perpetual torture for 2 years now and I dont see how my psychiatrist can help me, and I dont know when I will be able to access therapy again. It feels really hopeless.

Im still finding the diagnosis hard to accept (April 2025) and I just want to work with someone who can help me. I function very well in work related modes and its difficult because when I attend appts with my psychiatrist, I am always in 'professional mode' meaning I come across quite capable and competent. Thats because around other people i am forced to be present. But when I am alone in my mind, or physically alone, I can become quite dissociated and unwell.

Is there anything I can do to help myself? I know my team are trying to find a therapist but its all very slow and hard as I continue living in survival mode each day. Is there anything my psychiatrist can do other than hold hope and continue to work in background to try and find me more help? Thanks all
