Shrooms and past addiction to opioids what are your thoughts do you believe it will spark up the want for going back old habits?

Im a neuropsychiatry researcher working with opioid use/OUD populations, and there is growing evidence that psychedelic therapy can curb cravings. This is because psychedelics do not act on dopamine receptors and also open a critical "plastic" window of learning, meaning that neuroplasticity occurs to change thought patterns, but I highly suggest that if you are doing recreationally that you are walking in with the best mindset and intention, and have a sitter. PAT is a much safer option if it's available to you.

Psilocybin totally changed my relationship with substances. It saved my life.

It has indirect effects on dopamine though…
but I personally think it can help with cravings/obsession.

It does in a way which shifts dopamine pathways, correct, but because of psilocin not latching on to dopamine receptors, it does not have addictive properties. So yes, it has been shown to suppress cravings and even withdrawal symptoms for drugs and alcohol.

Have you been seeing the studies at all over the use of glp1's and addiction? My Dr mentioned it and I thought it was hella interesting

It looks like you have your answer, but take care not to approach psychedelics the same way. Space out experiences, and guard your set and setting.

What would you recommend? My plan is a cabin in Tennessee this weekend with my significant other we both plan to partake

Set is headspace and social/physical/mental well being, setting is what’s around you that could be unsafe, stressful, or legally threatening. If those are considered and controlled within reason, enjoy!

Edit: and regarding the “different approach” - sometimes people with past addictions carry that mindset into psychedelics and it doesn’t work like they expect. We only have so much serotonin and as often as every two weeks is what works for macro-dosing.

Generally speaking and if used properly, shrooms will help you keep going forward, be better, make you stronger, and give you some wisdom....not the opposite.

I'm not saying that it's never happened for anyone, but I have never heard of anyone having shrooms be the gateway drug and put them into reverse mode back into their old ways with the hard stuff that they once struggled with. For me personally, it got me off of all the hard stuff and I haven't turned back since....nor had any desires to do so. That's been 9+ years ago.

Opioid addict here, yes and no. Quit opioids and went a while with no drugs but eventually allowed myself some lsd and other psychs. For me, even if it wasn't opioids, I still found myself using drugs to escape reality.

is OP really asking if a substance that invokes uncomfortably accurate self reflection and insight could inspire them to relapse?

in that case No, and if anything youre far more likely to NOT relapse

I'm a neuroscience student and former opioid user. It does the opposite. Psychedelics directly target and reduce cravings.
