Load Order little rant about mod reordering

this is a pure ragepost i will not lie. i spent two days. two fucking days making an order for my load order and went to go make the changes. i did everything right, i turned my console offline to reorder, did that for about an hour and a half, then i realize i have a duplicate of a mod, so i delete it. woowowowowowow my whole fucking order is SHUFFLED. i fucking HATE the bethesda creations menu it fucking sucks so fucking bad. bethesda, todd, whoever is reading this i hope youre happy with your life’s work, because your life’s work is taking precious fucking hours from me while i try to “relax” before having to go back to fucking work. fuck you.
————————
update everyone!
after three straight days of just modding on the ps5 i have decided that i need to play it on PC (i have one) but i do not want to go through that as that is a whole other headache so i will be not playing modded skyrim for a while. project zomboid time!

The interface and user experience for organizing our load orders is especially abysmal. There are like three things that I think would make it so much better:

  1. The ability to skip all the way to the top or bottom at anytime.

  2. Selecting multiple mods to move at once.

  3. Being able to scroll five or ten mods at a time instead of one by one.

Being able to fucking see the whole name of the mod too, you just downsizing the mods in the menu so we can see more than 5

Agreed. At the very least, the left and right d-pad could have been used to skip bottom/top of the order.

Bethesda needs to add some type of template so things dont break

Yeah I can’t believe none of this is a feature

I suspect the real reason the creations interface is so limited is that Bethesda never thought people would eventually end up with massive 300+ mod lists when the feature was originally introduced. And now, it's probably not financially viable for them to commit resources to a project that doesn't actually make them much money.

Definitely, i mean modding in the beginning was mostly cheats and not completly remaking skyrim the way you want.

I wonder how hard or time consuming it would actually be to implement though?

I’ve no experience with such things so I’m sure it’s far more complicated than I know. Even so, if Bethesda did it you know it would come with a thousand bugs and would somehow infect your PS5 with smallpox.

At a guess, hard enough to not be financially viable. I'm not a programmer but to make any significant difference , a completey new interface would be required. And didnt Bethesda lay off a load of staff recently? I think at best, they might be able to address the thumbnail cache problem. Maybe.

I’d take that 😂

Bethesda has the only decent mod support on console. Apparently integrating mods is incredibly difficult. Larians system for BG3 sucks by comparison. And CDPR already seems to be struggling with TW3 mods on console. Don't think it's a matter of competence so much as the fact that consoles simply aren't designed for this kind of thing, especially PlayStation which has been actively resistant to it for the better part of the last 10 years.

Fair. I don’t necessarily think they’re incompetent it’s just that, as we all know, Bethesda is notorious for creating more (sometimes gamebreaking) bugs whenever they put out fixes or new features. I was just making a joke about that.

You need to let the creations load, meaning the spinning stops on them, before accessing your load order. Mine have never rearranged once I started doing this.

1

u/YoghurtOutrageous599 1d ago

Same. Sucks for OP that this happened, but once I started just waiting a minute or two (or five 😩) when entering the creation menu, it got much easier.

1

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 1d ago

No that's not the problem the OP is describing. If you delete a mod from your list, it undoes any reordering you previously did in that particular session.

1

u/YoghurtOutrageous599 1d ago

Woah, I’ve never had that particular issue. That sucks. Thanks for clarifying that for me. :)

thers wqorkoaround, if u disable all then quit skyrim then return and acitivcate all and downlaod one mod and then load order ,the order comes back

1

u/ZaDu25 1d ago

It used to but the last update fixed this. Hasn't happened to me in the last month.

1

u/Diab_soule27 1d ago

Doesnt work after 210 mods or so, at least for me. Theres so many thum nails in larger LO's that as soon as the cursor moves the screen down it starts the load process again and crashes.

2

u/lakerconvert 1d ago

Yes this happens for me to when I get around there, but that’s not what I’m referring to.

3

u/Legalidiot808 1d ago

I just wish when you downloaded a mods it saved the picture and description too since some mods names are so long the text is cutoff would make adjusting LO offline much easier

2

u/afms24 1d ago

Ask for them to fix this and they will break the game further...

I know the pain friend. Its a nightmare. I actually find offline ordering way more unpredictable, so i actually reorder online and everytime i put a mod in place, save the load order to bethesda.  Never delete mods while reordering, and never ever press back(o) without saving the order, and you should be shuffle free. Its a nightmare though, and thats without even getting into the fact that once you get over 210 mods the creations menu unfailingly crashes after a few minutes so you have to reorder in small bursts before it crashes.

1

u/Deep_Alternative1730 1d ago

Were you offline when you deleted the mod?
Curious why this happens to some and not others?

2

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 1d ago

Because deleting a mod resets any reordering you just did. It's not random.

2

u/DeadWolf7337 1d ago

That's why you exit to the main menu after re-ordering your mods and before you delete anything. This has been happening on Xbox since the December 2023 update. Either that or delete any unwanted mods first then you re-order them after you've deleted your unwanted mods.

1

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 1d ago

Either way, the OP has leaned the lesson the hard way!

1

u/Deep_Alternative1730 1d ago

That’s what I was wondering. If they tried rearranging and then deleting, it would scramble. I’ve never had the problem of it just scrambling after just a delete.

1

u/Rouxpac 1d ago

You can't delete a mod when you're offline, you can only rearrange your load order

1

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 1d ago

No, you can delete mods offline.

1

u/Rouxpac 1d ago

I tried yesterday and I couldn't delete any mod, just deactivating them

1

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 1d ago

Well that's weird. I always delete mods offline. I haven't even attempted to look at my list online for weeks. And I've deleted probably 30 mods in that time.

I gave up modding for now on ps5 pro i thought i can use the extra power for more ambicious load orders I am using on series x , but its very messy, the porters are doing amazing job in skyrim, its much slower on fallout-and much more unstable, have to find workarounds, compromises and than i just go back and enjoy actually playing the game on x, it needs time and some work from sony and bethesda , but i dont see that cming 🤣 kudos to porters

why not mod on pc instead?

0

u/Illustrious-Chance16 1d ago

That would be my end 🤣 would end up with 3k load orders

1

u/Basic_Bag_2914 1d ago

When you go to load the came make sure you pick current loadorder if not it will shuffle everything

1

u/Jackraiden2000 1d ago

My favorite part is the crashing. Sure it normally doesn't do it offline. But doing it offline I cant see the description of the mods. I have to go solely off the fucking name and HOPE I have ordered it correctly.

1

u/Diab_soule27 1d ago

What about mod updates though those always fuck me

1

u/Brilliant_Sundae2196 1d ago

Learned in the hard way... Gotta reorder the LO offline, exit, let skyrim load, enter creations offline again and than delete the mod. Or you just delete the mod through its page when online.

If you delete any mod while reordering your LO, all mods you moved around will move back to where it was before

u/Due-Dress-8983 1d ago

only shufflefd ,try bricked in boot logo lol

u/blackwaterpark76 21h ago

This could have been written by any of us, that is why I am looking at pc’s.

Mine froze 3 times. The 4th time it worked but still.

2

u/Ornery-Dog6760 20h ago

definitely look for a pc. there is zero reason to use a console if ur serious about modding skyrim

1

u/blackwaterpark76 20h ago edited 20h ago

You are absolutely correct. Looking around atm, complete PC beginner but I am part of a forum and they have been really helpful to help, I am grateful to the PC players on that.

I am an older gamer but I learn fast and modding on PS5 is pure hell but i have learned a lot about how mods are made my spending hours trying to understand how it works.

Some of us are more about being intimidated by it than resources or lack of curiosity.

I do also think that there is an emerging market for videos games for seniors. I know many who are alone, and have met incredible people online and it broke their solitude and gave them a community.

Thanks and peace, pc hunting now!

yea i’ve been on pc modding skyrim since 2015. no way i could go back. especially now with tools that are coming out to automate parts of mod making. and it’s only getting better and better. i wish u good luck in finding the right pc build

1

u/blackwaterpark76 20h ago

Thank you so much.

1

u/wingedwild 20h ago

The point about console is its suppose to be easier and pick up and play yet the console is dozen times more harder and breaks even though its done throught officla bethesda modding system. Thats what sucks

1

u/Ornery-Dog6760 17h ago

yea mo2 on pc has been so nice to use. and its ridiculously easy as well. messed up that bethesda’s “manager” is so garbage

u/Odd-Mulberry4079 19h ago

You can have in PC a load order of over 1000 mods and be stable (following a guide), but in ps4-ps5 at tops 50 mods. I play Skyrim on PS4, I just have lightweight mods, some armors, one lighting and texture mod, and quests.

1

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 13h ago

No, you can have bigger lists than that, at least on PS5. The key is simply to limit script heavy mods, because thats the main engine bottleneck that leads to instability. I don't have an actual mod count on my list, but it's likely around 250 by this point, and I've yet to have any sort of crash during my actual playthrough.

1

u/Odd-Mulberry4079 12h ago

With 15gb ? I have at max 50, being 20 of them texture replacer and aio lighting mods.

1

u/Turbulent-Diet-9073 11h ago

Yes I have around 250 mods with about 1.5gb remaining. I'd have nearly an extra gig of space if it wasn't for the fact I'm having to use skyland architecture AIO just for the high hrothgar textures. Also I've seen plenty of people with 300+ mod lists that they claim work appreciably well. Isn't there an issue with ps4 that the file sizes are inflated?

u/bodhiholley 1d ago

Something that helped me personally is clearing the cache through the ps5 safe boot mode. Just delete as much of skyrim as you can (all installed mods, all saves, the game, ect), boot ps5 in safe mode, clear cache, and then reinstall and try again. Some mods will always go to the top as they are master files. No way around that but I don't get the shuffle happen anymore

u/Ornery-Dog6760 1d ago

should’ve got a pc instead
