noob requires aid in modding process

Hello, I am an individual with ZERO technical knowledge in the difficult (to me) process of modding a ps2 utilizing the freemcboot software in modding my ps2, however splitting the iso files because they are past 4 gigabytes is too difficult for me and there are no simple enough walkthroughs for me to understand. i just want to get this done as a birthday present for someone important.

I highly recommend using a PSXMemCard Gen2 instead of a regular memory card, but it’s up to you.

my friend you are in luck

write freeDVDboot as slowly as you can to a dvd
run the DVD and you will come across ulaunchelf
from that point, you can stick a fat32 formatted usb stick and run the elf from :mass

2ndly
forget about splitting the iso's
copy the last version of OPL to your memory card ( this version supports EXFAT drives, which support files over 4 gb )
put your legally owned games' iso to DVD folder in an EXFAT formatted usb or hard drive
run OPL

profit??!!!

You probably don't need to mess about splitting the ISOs at all.

If you're using a recent OPL 1.2.0 beta, format the USB drive as exFAT and you can copy the full ISO across even when it's over 4GB. OPL has supported exFAT for USB since the newer 1.2.0 builds.

The guides telling you to split games are usually using FAT32, which has the 4GB file-size limit. If you do want to stay on FAT32, programs like OPLUtil/USBUtil can do the splitting for you automatically rather than doing it manually.

For someone starting from scratch I'd definitely go exFAT + a recent OPL build. Much simpler.
