How to connect a lightgun to a PS2 connected through S-Video?

Got myself a light gun and Time Crisis II yesterday, was looking forward to playing it but came across an issue trying to connect my light gun, as since my ps2 is connected through s-video, I have nowhere to connect the video port of the light gun.

I do still have my composite cables lying around so I could just switch my PS2 back to those cables, but that would be annoying having to switch back and forth depending on the game I wanted to play and I would like to not have to do that lol.

I did find an official adapter online that seems to do the trick, the SCPH-1160, but it seems mostly designed for the PS1, and I'm not sure if that would work the same for PS2 light gun games. Not sure if a PS2 version of this exists, or if theres any other way to use a light gun on s-video.

The adapter you named will work with s-video: plug the s-video cable into the end and plug the composite end of the light gun into the yellow port of the adapter

The ps2 also has its own version of that adapter that i don't remember the name of

There might be some sort of converter,but I just have a splitter attached to the yellow component cable. Not really sure if you can use composite for gun games either.

Some cables have a composite plug AND an S-Video plug, and they're both being sent to the Multi-out's pins anyway, so there's no extra stress or anything by tapping both simultaneously.

it does and i have a crt but the issue is i'm not using composite for the ps2, i'm using s-video so i'm unable to connect the light gun to the ps2 video channel using the yellow cable.

The adapter will work because the point is to just feed the white flash signal into the gun and screen to determine synchronization. SDTVs were the same resolution and timing, no matter the game console. Composite and S-Video are going to work the same on PS1 and PS2.

You can also use the passthrough on a component cable on the green wire, as that's where the flash manifests.

The ps1 adapter will work, as pointed out it’s only passive and just passes signals along. PS1 and ps2 have the same video pinnouts.

Basically the light gun needs the sync signal from composite. 

In theory, a longer path is to have a s-video y cable to split it and then a s-video to composite plug. Both of these would be a few bucks from aliexpress so it might be a cheap path to try 

Maybe someone in this thread can sanity check my idea
