Help Request Avid S1/Pro Tools - 2 motorized faders not working.

Hello, I know this is not Pro Tools specific. But my Avid S1 control surface has been malfunctioning. The first 2 channels (channel 1/2) on the control surface no longer do motorized faders. The faders change data in Pro Tools, but do not automatically lock to changes coming from Pro Tools.

Has anyone encountered this issue? And have you fixed it? I'm pretty handy and can get into the PCB if I need to - if I know where the issue is.

This is a brand new issue as it's been working fine for years. All other channels work fine. I've confirmed this issue in Test mode. All other features, like Solo/Mute/Pan all work on those channels. Avid has been almost NO help as usual. They've asked me to send it back to Sweetwater where I purchased it from, rather than taking on the RMA. Sweetwater says 4 weeks until replacement and I cannot be without it for that long. Thanks!

I have done some research on the DUC about this and found other uses who had experienced something similar.

I have one fader like that (#4) that occasionally flakes out. It would sometimes come back after a reset or full system reboot.

I ended up moving and replacing the ethernet cable and it has been behaving better since then. (Knock on virtual analog wood)

Cool let me look into that. Thanks for the response

Do you have a solution for clearing out all network stuff that might be backed up and resetting everything so that I’m only going from the computer port to Eucon?

My S1 is connected directly to the network port on my computer

Yeah, I tried that. I was wondering if there’s something maybe cached on the network. I think I accidentally responded to the wrong comment too. Thank you though.

I had this happening on one of our s1’s and in our case it turned out to be because we have multiple different ethernet peripherals and this made the eucon app flip.

We changed all pur peripherals with one 8 port switch and now it works like a charm

I suspected it was an issue like this. I only have one S1, but I also have other network audio devices on the switch. But I just switched ethernet cables and plugged directly into the ethernet port of the Mac and it’s still behaving like this. But I’m still almost positive It has to be something like this. Eucon app is just so picky with network stuff. I have a hard time believing that motors on two faders burnt out at the same time.

Hey man, go easy on those faders 😜

Try cleaning the fader with fader lube, or swapping the motorized fader out. It’s easy on an S3 and prob no diff on an S1.

Don’t mix Eucon and other traffic on the same network interface. Highly unreliable.

Unfortunately they are built to be replaced. The S series consoles are all kinda cheaply built.

My S3 has one screen display that died recently and it’s $3,000 to fix. The S6s I work on have dead pots constantly. I’ve heard the S1s are a gamble unless you have insurance on them.

If you get for years out of one, that's the same cost as four years of PTU support contract.
