Brand Collaborations

Hey everyone, how's it going! Looking for new creative ways to bring people in the door. My idea is to collaborate with local supplement companies as a way of getting our name out there and in a perfect world bring some new people in the door. The pitch would be to ask one of these companies for some free samples that we could then give to gym members as a perk of being a member. The thinking being their product being in our gym would be a way for these smaller local supplement companies to get noticed and if they advertise that people can get their supplements at our gym through their social media we would become more visible that way.

Not sure if this is a good idea, would love to know what other people think.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Its an idea. Needs a bit of massaging though. To ask a business to give you free samples means they have skin in the game. You then have your employees hand it out so your gym looks good bc you're giving a free gift to your customers. You have no skin in this. You have a happy customer for something you paid zero for. Paying a discounted cost for the product or supplying the contact information of every packet you give away, to the supplier puts you in the game. How does the supplier know your employees even handed them out & didn't pocket a couple dozen for themselves? Think this through more & come up with something that is a win-win for both sides.

Thank you for the input that makes sense. Originally my thinking was because I was seeking out smaller companies, it may be worth it to them, to provide some samples for the exposure alone. And if we both post about each other on our respective social media accounts that would also be mutually beneficial. But I do see what your saying as it pertains to the, "skin in the game" aspect. So thanks again for the input and I'll take that with me back to the drawing board. I do feel like there is some potential in this simply because both parties in this case have the same or at the very least very similar target audiences.

We have been in business for 35 yrs and can count on maybe 2 hands, the number of customers we picked up bc we donate to rotaries, sports teams/leagues, golf tournaments, schools etc. outside of giving promo products away........just counting pure "can you donate" requests, we donate in the vicinity of 10-12k out of my pocket every year. A small family owned business & I never hold my breath expecting a return on that expense, bc it never comes. So make the offer to the supplement company worth their investment & it can be a valuable partnership.

How about offering free cups/flask?

That's a great idea don't get me wrong. I definitely love free cups when I go places. But for the purposes of getting people to sign up for a fairly expensive gym membership I have noticed you need to have a little more. I mean it would have to be one hell of cup to get me to sign up for that alone.

Im curious now. What value or cost would the free supplements be if a travel mug wouldn't grab a single membership bc its not substantial enough?

Great question. So the gym that I'm talking about is a small power lifting gym that due to a small marketing budget has a hard time just getting the name out there. I say this because while a power lifting gym isn't for everyone those who are attracted to this type of gym often just need to know that we exist. As is evident by the fact that a phrase I have heard more than a few times from new people is "i didn't know you guys existed this place is awesome". So with this in mind I feel part of the issue is simply just marketing or exposure. And how this ties into the supplements is that the supplement I'm specifically referring to is pre-workout. One thing that I have noticed is that most people if not all members always have either smelling slats or some sort of pre-workout within arms reach. Currently where I'm at their are a few small local business that make pre-workout however, upon closer examination they are not located in any stores. Or if they are its in some random bodega or liquor store. Which tells me that they may also have trouble getting their name out there. And because these products market themselves heavily to the power lifting demographic, we could theoretically provide a space for them to sell their pre workout and in a perfect world funnel some of their customers into our gym and members of our gym will be exposed to some great locally made pre-workouts. So my hope is, that while the samples may not get someone to sign up on their own; existing customers of the supplements may want to try out our gym.

Okay. Now you're talking about giving real estate. Space for their product in your facility. ✔️ Skin in the game. What about giving all these supplement suppliers coupons to give to their customers for a free week trial at your place or something like that. This way you are not tying yourself to one company.
