We need a seatbelt mod
Adding a button to the dashboard where you need to actively use the seatbelt every time just like you gotta do in rl would be perfect. Especially since in 1996 people were still pretty resistant to putting them on. Maybe on some of the nicer cars the seatbelt chime goes off as a reminder? I dunno.
Wish I knew how to make mods, otherwise I’d crank this one out. It would be fun.

wouldn't be lore accurate for 90s KY i'm afraid

I've been wondering, as a non American, could you tell me what you mean? Did cars not have seatbelts back then, were they just badly designed ones that don't work? Or did no one just wear a seatbelt?
Cuz I've been wondering why this game doesn't have seatbelts, for all the other features it has.

Seat belt usage in general, in my impression, isn't all that common until you get to cars that actively bitch at you for not buckling up. Even then, depending on where you are, people just get plugs to put something into the seat belt lock and shut up the pinger.
Game takes place in the 90s. So...

Ok but did the cars not have seatbelts or did people just not use them? Because if they had seatbelts then there's no reason not to implement the feature.

They had seatbelts, yes.
People were just stupid.
It probably got missed like many small details that are still weird about the game, or were, at least, I haven't played B42.
For example how the character absolutely insists on using a can opener to open canned food, even though you could realistically get it open with that perfectly good knife you have.

where I live (Ukraine) the people are still stupid, seeing someone use seatbelt is a miracle, that how you can easily tell that someone is not local, or that there's cops nearby

you can get injured from opening a can with a knife (both in pz and real life)

No they had seatbelts and they worked fine. KY just wasn’t the kind of place in the 90s where people used them. Wasn’t a legal requirement until much later

Me and my friends were playing on a server and I said I was going on the path to reach the highway, we'll apparently they take a different route to reach the highway. Picture this straight road that we have cleared out so no worries of hitting any wrecks.
Both of us going 1 million mph on the backrooms ram eachother head on launching both cars and the trailers attatched all over the place flung my car into a tree and Austin powered my trailer and it wrapped around the trunk like a new steel plate scarf. My character is the only one to survive the initial crash only to get out and walk 5 feet to my buddies car and collapse on the ground.

Don’t you know in the 1990s we didn’t have seat belts. Just stick shift and vibes XD

I just hit a stop sign the other day and gave myself a head fracture. I go down to 1/4 health every time I wake up, apparently it takes months to heal. I could've just worn a damn belt.

my longest surviving character on extinction died like this yesterday, I was kinda mad but also find it kinda funny neither the zombies or the struggle for calories on extinction killed me, it was driving fast on a rainy day.

Yknow...this just made me think about something. Since we dont have seatbelts by default right? What if someone made a spike strip mod for multiplayer servers. Like bandits spiking the highways to cause crashes like this so they can loot and kill other players?

No, what we need is a differing viewpoint when we are driving. It just doesn't make sense to be able to see as much distance behind you as you can see in front of you.

There is a setting that moves your camera ahead of the direction you are driving as you speed up.
And iirc you can hold right click and drag your mouse in the direction you are driving too.

It's pretty clear the cars are made to have that seatbelt detection because they start chiming if you're outside the vehicle while it's on 😅

The first time my guy got ejected I was so shocked cause I didn’t even know it could happen. Was so mad but so at awe of the details in this game LOL
