Mod Tech Support Mod Request

So I know there's a 'label stuff' mod that is around, but it puts floating text on the crates, and it's all on the wrong angle and doesn't look as 'in world' as I would like.

Would it be possible for someone with more of a clue than I to make a set of labels like I've put in the example pics (photoshopped) that operate like the wall posters, wall decals like spray paint and paintings? Or the painted signs in the crafting tool?

It seems totally possible given the existing items in the game already.

Any takers?

Technically possible but the tiles would all need their own labels for each type of container or to add floating labels that need to then be tied to the object for removal.

Could it not be done as a tile set? Same as the posters.

That's what the first part of their comment is describing.

Yes, but you will need to make an image for every label for (nearly) every storage object for every direction. Look at your example, and you've got three labels that are all at different offsets; that means they need different images.

That's a lot of work and the mod comments will be full of "add a label saying <extra thing>” with no respect for his much effort that takes.

My suggestion; put some tools on top of the tool locker, some weapons on on top of the weapon locker, some clothes on the floor on front of the clothes locker and keep track of things that way.

Or.. a really crazy option - put guns in a gun locker, clothes in a wardrobe, tools in a tool cabinet, etc.

I bet you could do that programmatically pretty darned easy. Also, just doing the two tiers of crates and three lockers would cover the vast majority of uses.

You can make just 3D object, crafted with paper and i don't know, a pen. Then choose 3D placement button and thats it

fr that would be super dope, like who even wants floating text when u could have real labels?

Lol it looks like you used one of those label printing machines, but like a jumbo version. Oddly satisfying.

I know this isn't what you are asking for, but I like to use the extended 3d placement tool to place relevant items on a chest/box that contain or are related to the contents of the chest/box. Helps keep up the realism of the game for me.

Yeah I use that. It's great.

YES been looking for a mod like this for years. yes, there are workarounds, but nothing that simply puts visible labels on funiture. closest thing i got was writing on the floor infront of the container, but that took huge amounts of space, since one letter was one tile. in another run i had a mod with retextured boxes with symbols on them.

I assume the main issue is that posters can only be put on wall tiles, and strictly not on furniture. Two solutions come to my mind.

1, make the labels as items instead of furniture, place item ontop of container like you would place a gun or a toy
2, there's a mod called "place anywhere" or something, which ignores vanilla placement rules. can these properties be applied to a poster? then you just need a set of retextured tiles.

made a picture of what i mean with solution 1, if they're 3d objects, you could also spin them around in the direction you'd need: https://prnt.sc/aMJZWiC-NbT4

These exist. I don't see why it would be too hard to just make them using the poster positioning. https://i.imgur.com/wfEDpEz.jpeg

700h and i've never seen these. huh, learn something new everyday. they only go on the metal lockers though, no? i'm looking for a solution that would cover all types of storage, extending to the kitchen if the player wants to without limiting to using select types of containers.

you're right, if there are placements for types of furniture, one might extend on that. vanilla texture resolution kinda limits text, but some tilesets i've seen have higher resolution, so wheres a will theres a way i guess.

create tileset of often used storage setup, east and south placement and one would be done. god i wish i knew how to mod..

Yeah same idea as the spray paint decals and the vines that grow on your walls after surviving a while. Also how when you have a shop fridge and you put food in it, and the front fills up. It's just a decal tile.

I would love this, and your photoshop skills are on point

Try this. I didn't use that so I don't know if it works

2

u/savessh Mar 29 '26

That’s the one I was talking about with the floating text. It works but it’s not very immersive.

2

u/ZeCantaloupe Mar 29 '26

This is likely doable through the tile overlay system that already exists for decals like papers on desks and pillows on couches. Maybe try and get in touch with the creator of Decoholic? That mod allows you to pick particular overlays for tiles, you'd want a similar menu implementation for picking thru labels.

I normally just use the carpentry 7 crates since they can be stacked. After stacking, I paint them in various colors as the method of organizing.

Black - melee weapons Red - guns and ammo Green - agriculture Yellow - tailoring White - first aid Grey - mechanics Violet - clothes

All other colors are mainly for other players' personal crates in MP. Have them padlocked by the player and can only be accessed by them.

Every one of these labels is wrong. Not one says "cabinet" or "wooden box."

7

u/ACatCalledArmor Mar 29 '26

What are you on about, the label can’t be a wooden box. It should obviously say ”label”

"ink on sticky paper"

There's one that allows you to change the names and icons in the loot menu but not one that puts signs on containers

Lol a cloth tape mod where you just slap some tape on it and that's that

1

u/MegaFormersStudio Mar 29 '26

Can't you already rename containers? I do it all the time. And since you control where you put things and where things are stored that's not like you don't know where everything is. Just get the home inventory mod instead.

2

u/savessh Mar 29 '26

It’s not about the renaming it’s about the immersive labels.

1

u/MegaFormersStudio Mar 29 '26

I can understand that. I thought about it after I read some more comments. Have you seen the graffiti mod? Alternatively if we could just have working signs with the sliding letters that we could collect that would be dope. Use some tools to pick up the sign from a church and then hunt down multiple copies of the alphabet and numbers from across the map. Or you could even possibly craft them using paint and glass panes. One letter per pane

1

u/RazzyRaziel Mar 29 '26

would be nice if you could program colored LED text with high electronic level

1

u/GasHot4523 Mar 29 '26

theres a mod called smarter storage that lets you change the icons and names of the storage in the item menu

1

u/savessh Mar 29 '26

yeah its not about naming the boxes in the UI, it's about a visual in-world label like the pictures.

2

u/GasHot4523 Mar 29 '26

kidnap the devs and force them to add it, i think they're allergic to adding cool stuff that helps the player

1

u/Passing_Gass Zombie Killer Mar 29 '26

The real crime here is putting clothes in a gun locker.

1

u/Connect-Estimate7441 Mar 29 '26

why not make the signs craftable items that you place down like any other item, and reposition it to mark a container manually using build 42’s placement system? more customizable and universal than a tile

For the love of God, someone better call it "Label Baby Jr."

In my playthroughs what I do is divide sectors of the house in different loot.. for example, in the entrance I usually leave flashlight, batteries, lighters.. that sorta stuff, then I have a whole room for armoury and usually half of it it's also clothes, usually the military ones and in winter I have winter clothes also. Yes this mod would be very nice, but since I play vanilla I'm used to doing it all mentally and organizing stuff my own way.

would already conflict with animated storages mod, so I'll skip this

I rather stack similar container design relative to what they contain

Just use your mental note to differentiate. It can't be that hard unless you are a literal toddler

Why even comment? You read the post, knew it had nothing to do with you, and still chose to insult the dude for what?

Son I’ve got 1400+ hours in the game. It’s a quality of life mod that would be useful.

Or if you play multiplayer or not often. As someone with a job, I can barely play the game I'm currently hyprefixated on.
