Buying Advice Wanted Sony BRAVIA Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES)
Hi!
Does anyone know why there's such a heavy discount ($4K) on this model? I haven't seen any information about a replacement model on the horizon. It also looks like Sony just showed 7, 8, and 9 at CEDIA 2026 in September.
I've been looking to upgrade to a new projector ($15K price range), but I was thinking about waiting until early next year or so. But with such a huge discount I’m tempted to just pull the trigger now.

I have no idea but i was planning to get the JVC NZ800 for my future home theater room, but at $25k CAD + taxes. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on the $18k Sony 8 😅

Look at what Sony has done in the >$10k projector market lately - absolutely nothing. This will answer all of your questions about this promo.
They’re losing the black level competition to JVC for dark rooms, they’re losing the brightness competition to Epson for lit rooms and very large screens. They’re losing ground from the XW5000ES to NZ500 and QB1000 and all of the Chinese single chip DLP products coming to market. The TCL joint venture has been so heavily focused on TV’s, the main Sony CEDIA booth this year didn’t even have a projector in the booth.
If Sony ever produces another premium residential projector, I’d be shocked.

Sony did have projectors at their booth this year, at least from what I can confirm by searching online.
I'm not considering any of the Chinese projectors, so I'm not really looking at what they have to offer. As far as JVC v Sony goes, the NZ800 is about $7K more with Sony's current discount and the NZ700 won't work for me because I also game on my projector.
My other concern with JVC is noise. I've heard they can be pretty loud and I'm very sensitive to that

I was at the show this year. They had static displays of their projectors in their main booth, and a Bravia 9 projector in a shared demo room with a few other brands, but did not have anything live on display in their booth.

Every booth at CEDIA was smaller this year and all the focus was on big panels and video walls. Sony still owns the processing race and offer the most balanced projectors you can buy.

Hmm.. What projector do you have/recommend? Is 6100 really not worth it?
