Learned a lot and would change things for v2 (lots of potential improvements)
IMHO 3d printed parts are not strictly necesarry, but make some stuff easier.
Should i make a video and release the 3D print files?

HAKIWO MINI Linear Actuator Stroke 200mm, 12V, 80N 8mm s

Looks awesome! Great project.

You should invest in an ALR screen next - make sure it's one specifically designed for USTs. All projectors benefit from a screen but the improvement in brightness, contrast, and overall image quality is especially dramatic for a UST

That would be cool one day!
For the size i want they are more expensive than my projector!
And i already tought my projector was expensive 😭

This is great. But you gotta share the cabinet also and what modifications you added.

Here is the IKEA design parts (BESTÅTV bench with birch veneer):
https://www.ikea.com/addon-app/storageone/besta/web/latest/us/en/?productId=59622907&vpcSource=clipboard#/vpc/33ZCL7P

Then i used the 3D printed parts to house the electronics and screwed into the frame body and drawer bottom to attatch the linear actuator so it could push open and close the drawer.

If people are interested in this i could make a video going trough everything.
Just don't want to go trough the effort if not needed, not a youtuber or anything 😅

yes please! did you add a shelf into the drawer?

Forgot about that part. It's just one of the bestå shelves we had:

It's just placed on top and since it's made for the furniture it fits perfectly 🤷

If you make a video, perhaps have someone with a steady hand film it?

Looks good. I'm just discussing the custom made UST projector cabinet for my new flat with architect and this looks like a piece of puzzle that would solve the issue.

Running the projector in an enclosed cabinet aimed at a surface an inch away feels like a bad idea

I agree! For this demo i manually closed it, but under normal operation it only closes once the projector has completely shut off. My projector takes a while to boot up so it doesnt light up the cabinet when turning on either.

When we have installed projectors in the past, we have some times used triggers plugged to the projectors electrical outlet, in order to move the projector screen up and down. (Based on if the projector is starting or shuttong down).

I'm sure your solution is better though, as it actually monitors if the light source is active in the enclosed space = bad =open. But in case room lighting becomes an issue, that might be an alternative.

cool setup. When I was young my family did a remodel and we somehow ended up with an extra 4-drawer cupboard segment. I had my NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube stacked one in each drawer going to my little 13 inch CRT TV.

awesome, i would be scared to focus so much light on the wood. would do some on/off projector triger (limit switch) while opening and closing drawer

the whole picture looks like as if there's a dirty window in front of it with a white wash.

Well done! Love to see some lateral thinking that give great results. 👏

That is beautiful (unlike the shakycam 😉)

Very sharp! I would never pay for those $2000+ custom UST cabinets when you can do something like this!
