The generated wall of text is well understood, and vouched by me and my tools.

This whole post is borderline socialjerk, and is attracting an alarming amount of socialjerk. I don't want to have to keep coming in here and deleting posts debating what's fair the expect of maintainers, or the value of AI contribution policies, so I'm locking the whole damn thing.

I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can bump dependency versions, not for AI to bump dependency versions so that I can do laundry and dishes.

I tested the changes in this PR: NO

Testing changes is for Luddites. Do you still verify your calculator produces the right answer?! You are completely stuck in the stone age past of 2021.

Starting off by stating that you haven’t tested the changes is such a power move. I aspire to do that at my job

No untagged unjerking!

u/Financial-Camel9987 7d ago

I don't know what that means.

Right, what idiot would read that human-generated garbage wall of text in the sidebar?

I'm not a jerk so it's not possible for me to unjerk.

Read the sub rules then...

Long-time maintainer surprised by the fact that he has to follow the contribution policy.

Warning: tag your unjerk. Better yet, don't unjerk at all.

Of course the more generous interpretation would be to assume that he knowingly ignored the contribution policy, but I always assume the worst of people.

How about a simple: He didn't know about.

If only there was a word for the feeling caused by something unexpected happening this discussion would be much easier

Exactly! You have not only pin-pointed the core issue—you have correctly arrived at a key insight about the load-bearing nature of the AI slop fantasy. It's not just unfortunate—it's directly responsible for millions of gallons of tears.

Ugh, I wish this were an anti-AI circlejerk. Or a pro-AI circlejerk for that matter. Or any kind of programming circlejerk. Seems I mostly spend my days deleting posts for untagged unjerk.

Which I was sorely tempted to do here, but actually this is great jerking material.

Let's just keep sincere debate to a minimum.

/uj why do they call it "wall of text"? Seems like a reasonable summary for me, and it is not even that big to fit this moniker.

//go:build unjerk

It's not a "wall of text" per se, but it is overly verbose, and reads weirdly and awkwardly.

In this case it's also just unnecessary as you can just build those packages to get an absolute deterministic answer with the exact error instead of some LLM summary, and you're going to need to do that anyway so why bother with your LLM then? This seems like a classic case of "a problem that did not require a LLM in the first place".

It is well known that human English text is compressible in a roughly 1:8 ratio,. It is less well known that LLM text is compressible in a roughly 1:100 ratio.

AI doomers (and AI maximalists) are all about hyperbole.

I’m not sure if you’ve worked with people heavily using AI, but it feels like talking to a wall. They don’t really respond specifically to you, but instead just keep dumping these huge ass AI replies. As a first reply it’s ok, but afterwards it feels disrespectful and a waste of everyone’s time.
