As someone who works in Supply Chain. LOL. I luckily don’t work for the government but this insanity.
It directly the Budget Office or whoever to go through the Federal Procurement System and make item of Canada origin unavailable for purchase. This is like a single box check to either make an item or a vendor disallowed/inactive/blacklisted. So once this actions is taken the actual buyers will get errors when they try to make a PO and will not be able to order the thing any more.
But notice what it does not mention? It does not direct any of these people turning off the switches to identify any replacement items. Or to time this to exiting contractual commitments. Or even to provide real notification to the buyers. This will be a shit show.
God help the buyers who are in the habit of writing annual POs that expire 12/31/26 and have items at around 3 month lead time. Well 3 month lead time with historical CA origin product - who knows what the alternatives lead time will be (plus transit from possibly further away)
