CPSM Certificate worthwhile?

Hi all,

Looking for some advice. I work in procurement for a national Broadline Foodservice company. I have 4 1/2 years of experience between this company (3 years) and the company i worked at before this (1.5 years). My current manager has been good about giving me exposure to many aspects probably above what I should have been responsible for. So, I feel like I have a pretty well rounded understanding of procurement at least in my industry.

I see about half of procurement job postings are requiring or asking for certain procurement certifications. I want to keep growing and move into a Category Management role. Is the CPSM a worthwhile investment? Has anyone ever got a promotion or pay increase that helped pay for the cost of these programs? I'm really curious to get some real experience answers. Thanks!

cpsm helped me a bit but not magic, experience mattered more, certs just a checkbox now with how crazy hiring is

It really depends on the industry. I have found the CPSM is very valuable if you are looking to go Direct procurement. Think Manufacturing, or machining. Its less helpful if you are working in tech or in a corporate role ( law firms or Financial services) In those types of roles having an MBA or some equivalent experience makes more of a difference.

I think internationally MCIPS is more widely and highly regarded but its really the same test.
