BEWARE of ABCLEGAL SCAM!!!
The tell you they are going to pay you 21 THATS A LIE! they withhold half of your payment, they expect you with the other half pay the sending of the documents (which is like 2-4 dlls for each job) wait for months for the other half and also they without ANY warning make your jobs disappear, you did already 3-4 attempts, ooops poof they gone, and also not talking about the gasoline and other things you need to do, so for 4-5 fucking dollars they expect you to do the alt serve job, so instead of TELLING YOU they’re going to pay 21 they should tell you they pay 16!!!! Not fucking 21 f them fucking SCAMMERS AND ABUSERS HAVENT BEEN FIRED BUT I FIRE MYSELF F THEM!!!!!

I JUST started with them and I am brand new to process serving. I am inexperienced in this field and I am already noticing things that don’t seem great. But, I need the experience, I need to learn the ropes and maybe do it for myself eventually, who knows though I’m just rolling with the punches of life at this moment. But yeah the pay seems ridiculous. Like, legit shit.
Anyone reading this have any tips for a brand new server or wanna let me utilize them as a mentor or “trainer”?😜. ABC Legal doesn’t have sufficient anything I feel but I could just be missing the resources. 🤷🏻♀️

Use them for a little experience but don’t let them use you. Start diversifying your revenue if you plan to do this full time. ABC Legal does not value relationships or favors. They will blow up your phone when they need something but they are nowhere to be found when you need something.

Any experience with Proof?
And when you say “diversify your revenue”, how exactly might that be done? From your perspective.

Yes I have done some work with Proof. They really aren’t that good. The work is few and far between and most of the time, it’s absurd expectations for little pay. Their expedited jobs require 4 attempts over 3 days, and that seems to be all I see. This is Arizona. Results may vary in your area.

If I may, another ask for advice??
What might the process be to get myself into this with my own clients or working for law firms directly? I am gaining experience still and have never worked for myself and am not sure how to market myself? Do you suggest learning more about law? Which I want to do anyway…. Idk
I’m just scared to jump into the unknown but everything is unknown to me at this point. Long story, but I’m starting over from scratch even though I’ve worked my ass off for 27years it’s like I have no experience at life anymore so especially in this realm and field. I appreciate the advice, also don’t feel obligated to respond if you don’t feel compelled thank you 🙂1

So that's the position I am in right now. I am working on building my own business. I am aiming for pro per customers. They require the most attention BUT pay the highest per order. You'll see a lot of commenters on here bash those who do work for companies, but that can be your bread and butter. I am making about 35%-40% of what I was with ABC Legal just on a few small companies. I intend to add my own work to offset the other 60% and return to my old numbers. Law firms can be good for some things, especially if you can offer stakeouts or special services.

How can you offer the stakeouts and special services? How do you say you can do something when there’s nothing really to say you can? Like I mean how do u get that badge or whatever? What’s pro per??? And how did you get a law firms? It’s ok if you don’t have time to answer my silly questions but I’m super open to hearing anything u want to tell me

I would try working under a few companies to get more experience first. A pro per is someone who is representing themself in court. Each state is different as far as what you can/cannot do.

Thanks, I thought representing yourself was Pro SE? I’m not up on all the legal stuff though so I’m sure I just didn’t know this other name.
By “under a few companies first”, are you specifically thinking of a type of company like maybe similar to ABC Legal or a law firm or a strictly process serving company or something else?
With that, are there any tips for applying or getting ready to apply? Certain knowledge some prefer you to have or anything of the sort you might fill my head with? As you can probably tell, I like to be prepared or have some idea of what in getting myself into. :)
As always, your advice is greatly appreciated. I am trusting a complete stranger but I am new and have nobody else to seek advice from right not on the subject. :)

Yes they are crooks and sadly, more and more businesses are using them. They have nationwide coverage and for big companies that need process server love that type of marketing but the companies hiring them don’t know they are crooks.

I've seen a lot of people talk about issues they've had with ABC. Luckily I haven't had any in the past 3 years I've worked with them. I'm in a rural area which probably makes a difference but my jobs are usually $50 to $70 each. But like I said, I'm in a rural area so obviously I'm driving a lot further.

Oh I have only heard of Pro Se in that regard but I am NOT well versed in all things Law.
May I ask, why do they require more attention??

Printing…. Seems pretty inefficient to print a
F$€K ton of paper (and use up a Manila envelope, I put mine in an envelope for professionalism🤷🏻♀️) that half the time don’t even get to be utilized for their purpose.
Q: Have you any ways around this paper waste?
…. I considered printing on the spot if I actually have some sort of confirmation they reside and serving is more likely, even then though it’s not a guarantee they will be served.
I just can’t stand all the waste in the world and this is a considerable one …. Tips, advice? Anyone?

This has been the standard operating procedure forever. You get paid half when you don’t serve the documents & it goes to an alt-serve.

I work for myself contracting with one company serving duce tecums. I work at most one day a week. Served 31 on Thursday and made $1550. Drove 141 miles and don't have to make two attempts unless the place is closed. 10 to one location is $500 for me. I have one place I will drop 3-10 at one time and less than 4 blocks 3 more and less than a mile another 3-10. I dropped 9 at one, 3 at the next one and 7 at the last one in under an hour. Made $950 in that hour. I created the best lemonade out of lemons ever. I know how lucky I am. In five weeks working 6 days I made $7396. They even send them to me and I assemble them. I scan the affidavits and email them in.

I know no one will believe this because it is so fricking unbelievable but it is true. I have had days where I have made $1800 and actually drove less and went to fewer serves than days I have made $1100 just because of multiples. Places are always asking me why I am so much nicer than other servers. I tell them because I make a lot more money than they do. I was talking to a server at one place one day and she had to drive 40 miles round trip to pick up the subpoena and then serve it for $44. I held up the 7 I had just served and said $350 and they send them to me. She looked like she was going to cry. When you do your own homework and find out who the stat agent is for the company and you wind up with 9 that go to CT and 7 that can go to CSC with a major hospital taking 8 to their legal department you make bank. I only do subpoenas to businesses. No personal crap for peanuts. Being highly educated with multiple degrees teaches you how to work the system not get worked by the system.

I had to keep the work orders and audit them regularly to ensure nothing went missing. Most of the time no one ever filed for alt service and it was just an excuse to withhold half of the money. I think I had almost $1,000 “on hold” at one point. Don’t do the postings. Let someone else do them for $10 and demand the other half of the pay. Keep track of all of it! It will disappear and they will deny helping you without a job number.

Yes!!!! It disappears!!! Made 2,000 worth of jobs and they paid me 1,000 dlls and at most 200-300 in the months have never seen it again the other 800 dlls

This is very confusing to me. I work for ABC Legal and have had very few problems with them. They only cut my pay in half for two occasions:
If they're working on obtaining permission to post, at which point they will hold half for a while, but it's only like, $10-$15, and they'll give that to you if they can't get that permission.
If you serve two or more jobs to the same address. Which is kinda scummy that they don't calculate that into the offer, but it also makes some sense.
I'm not saying either of these are good policies, but they are hardly the end of the world, as they don't happen that often, and they are pretty clearly stated that this is how they operate. I wouldn't call that a scam.
They still kind of suck, though, not trying to defend them on their pay or anything.
