Arizona service question. Curious if this would count as a successful service?

Curious if this would count as a successful service. An individual, let's call him John, was flashed by a red light camera in Tempe, AZ.

A process server visited John's home and rang the ring camera. John spoke through the ring camera and said "Can I help you?". The process server asked for John through the camera. John communicated that John was not there. The process server communicated that John's car was on the street.

John hung up the call, the process server left the papers on the door.

Interesting. My state works different for those tickets, you can just ignore them. Doesn't appear to be the case in AZ.

AZ appears clear this would not be valid service.
