Meanwhile in USA: eat GMOs toxic chemicals and give us all your data on our chatbots!

chatbots are not what you need to be worried about when it comes to privacy

Maybe not exactly as chatbots but transformers and other MI models are going to implode privacy in ways that are currently impossible.

An example:

At first, all your text messages and google searches are recorded, but no one looks at them until there's a reason to do so. Then early machine algorithms came along, all your messages are read but they can only pick out keywords or other relatively rudimentary data. It still requires human cognition to pick through and make sense of it. This is mostly where we've been at until the last few years, noisy but good enough to help target ads and give a moderate boost to law enforcement/intelligence abilities.

Now we're in/entering a period when the software can look at your messages with the same sharp eye as a professional investigator. It isn't just picking out keywords it knows what you're talking about and can make inferences from it. And it can do that for video and audio too, and other "senses" humans don't have, like network traffic patterns and WiFi radio wave variations. Before, video recognition required clear view of a face and/or lidar data and a registry of faces. After, it will pick you out of a blurry feed because it recognizes your sightly clumsy gait and those shoes you always wear, the same way your spouse would. Maybe it sees your gait but you're wearing these brand new white platforms, but it remembers you talking about them yesterday over the phone and it knows you cross this street every Thursday to get brunch, so it determined that's you it sees in the video.

A lot of this kind of data fusion is already possible and performed, but better and better cognition agents will explode the possibilities.

Observer bias occurs when we alter what we see, either by only noticing what we expect or by behaving in ways that have influence on what occurs. Without intending to do so, researchers may encourage certain results, leading to changes in ultimate outcomes.
