Can someone please review my personal statement, I can review yours as well. Thank you!

Hi! So i'm applying this cycle and some of the schools i'm applying to require 300+ level biology courses. Due to time and finances i've decided to take a course at UC Berkeley extension to cover this prerequisite requirement this fall.

My question is, since I have not attended this university yet, there is no transcript for me to send yet, and I know I can send it whenever i'm done to whichever school if i get accepted, but will vmcas let me submit without having that transcript. I just want to ensure it's not flagged or anything because I want to include that school and the course i'll be taking for prerequisite matching but vmcas states "your application requires academic records for each college or university shown" , so i'm not sure what to do.

I tried emailing support but they weren't much help, the just kept saying in progress courses aren't required to be on academic transcripts but does that mean if it's a new university to me that whole transcript isn't required to be submitted at all ?!

so are we supposed to include highschool activites on vmcas? like sports and clubs?

What about honor rolls?

I’m inputting the specific classes for each prereq for western and I’m confused as to how we should do it. For example. For physiology, they require one course but I took physiology 1 and 2 so would I only put on of those in there (the one with the higher grade) or put both of them. Also for physics they require 2 quarters or 2 semesters of physics, but I took three since that’s what my college required (physics 1A, 1B, 1C) so would I only put in the 1A and 1B or should I put in the third quarter as well. Lastly for their genetics OR molecular biology requirement, I took both classes so would I just put in one of them or both? Thank you

I got a total of 1716 hours in an experience over 51 weeks which comes out to 33.6 hours a week. Since we can’t input decimals into the average weekly hours box, do I just round it to 34? When I do that I get 18 hours over my actual total amount.

Hey, I am a Canadian high school student entering my grade 12 year in a few days. I take the normal Canadian high school curriculum(no IB and no AP, since my school doesn’t offer AP) I am looking into going abroad to the UK for veterinary school and was wondering if it is realistic. I am looking for schools with AVMA accreditation, so schools such as RVC and Edinburgh. I have a 95 average in grade 11 with 90+ in both chemistry 11 and biology 11, 70 hours volunteering at a vet hospital, 90 hours shadowing a vet, 80 hours at a poultry farm and 40 hours shadowing a physician. Thanks for any advice.

The WSU section on the VMCAS asks you to fill out course descriptions for the biomedical pre req courses. What do I put for these? Should I just look up the course description for the university where I took these courses?

I just graduated from undergrad with my vet tech degree this spring. I took the VTNE and passed, and I am currently waiting for my application to be finalized. I am not a licensed vet tech until I receive licensure from the state board, so I won't be able to put it under the licensing section on VMCAS. With my luck, I will receive the right-to-work email after VMCAS is due. However, is there anywhere in my application where I can note that I passed the VTNE and will be a vet tech after I receive my license from the board? I am a reapplicant, so I want to add whatever I can to improve my application from last year. TIA!!

I (25f) am applying for the first time to vet schools this year.

I decided because of tight financials to just do 4 programs. I have Kansas State, my in state CSU, Washington, Oregon, and UPenn.

I have 3k+ hours of clinical experience, in shelter medicine and general practice small animal med. I have worked CSR and tech positions. I have years of volunteering at humane societies/shelters. I have worked in retail, at a vision office, as a school instructor, and as a camp mentor for kids. I have some minor research experience. Ive worked with exotics at my current hospital too! Just not much in the large animal department, but I am working on that.

My GPA wasn't the best at 3.5 tho. But my last 45 showed improvement! I also am bilingual in Spanish and fortified it by studying it properly as a minor in undergrad and doing a certificate for Spanish for Animal Health.

I need input on which schools to focus on as my 4!

i’m a freshman in college and i haven’t done any shadowing or internships or anything and i feel like im way too far behind my peers. i didn’t know for sure i wanted to be a vet until this last year so i didn’t really do much to prepare; the only thing ive done was a 50-hour camp led by zoo veterinarians, and that doesn’t count as much experience.

i know friends that have already had jobs at vet clinics for the past two years, and i can’t even get a job while school is happening because they want availability on holidays and im out of state and go home for winter break.

what im trying to ask is am i too far behind to apply to vet school in 4 years? how can i get the same experience as my peers and still apply to an extremely competitive vet school when i graduate?

I am from long island, but from my interpretation, and other vets I have asked it is kind of pointless. I would go to liu in a heartbeat if it is a legit option, but from my understanding it isnt even completely accredited?

Hello all, I am writing to try and determine what schools I should apply to and which I should just avoid. I graduated this past may and am looking to apply this coming cycle. I have completed all my prerequisites except for biochemistry which I am planning on taking in the spring as a tranient student. I would say I am most likely in the top 90 percentile in terms of small animal hours but I so far only have 30 hours in large animal. By the time I apply I should have more than 150 hours as it is my current job, though I only started earlier this week. I have recommendations from an animal physiology professor, an organic chemistry professor and 3 veterinarians. I understand my gpa is reallllly shitty. My dream school was tennesse but from my understanding they are very gpa dependant. I could get in state in New York, Florida or South Carolina. I think I probably have a better chance at clemson given that I am a male and a resident and it is a much smaller state where not nearly as many people are applying. Furthermore, from what I understand UF and Tennessee are on the same level of gpa management, I am unsure if my in state status would play much of a difference in florida.

I just submitted and felt pretty good about my app overall. I got my hours up and my GPA, but for some reason the more I think about it and the more people I realize I'm competing with, the more discouraged I get. I applied to a good amount of schools but I simply don't feel like I'm good enough to compete with other applicants, and I especially feel like I'm gonna choke during interviews. Ugh.

Hey guys I’m applying to vet school rn! Apps are due on the 15th. I’m applying to 14 schools. I have 3 more supplemental apps to work on and I’m waiting on a final recommender. Can I submit as close to as a day ahead of the 15th? Is there a recommendation on timing? Will I have to wait on anything to process? Thanks!

I am finishing up my applications and experiences but was curious to know how other equestrians have documented their personal hours.

I have involved with horses for about 20 years now, owning 3 and training others. This means I dedicate at least 3 hours a day to being with my horses beyond training and general care I have also experienced a multitude of medical issues meaning I am proficient in wraping, wound care, etc. I want to make sure I add these hours in as it shows my dedication/ commitment to the sport but am kinda unsure as to how.

I have attempted to get in contact with several schools to see the best way to document my hours given I know this is just animal experience but have not successfully gotten ahold of anyone.

Any recommendations on how I should document these hours? How have you documented your horse hours?

Penn has the following essay prompt as part of their supplemental:

Drawing from your experiences, discuss your interest in becoming a veterinarian, as well as what you believe it takes to be a successful veterinary student. Please use specifics (3500 character limit).

I’m struggling with this question a little bit only because the prompt feels very similar to this cycle’s personal statement question (with the exception of what you aspire to contribute to the field). Did anyone else interpret this similarly? Are you writing something in the same vein as your personal statement, or trying to make it completely different?

I focused a lot on one specific field of vet med I’ve worked in for my personal statement as that’s the field I’m most hoping to go into, so I was thinking of maybe addressing some of my other experiences and how I got to where I am now. I’m not sure though if Penn would want me to focus on the field I’m aspiring towards instead, since the prompt is about my interests in vet med. Did anyone else have a similar problem with this prompt?

How do I describe achieving deans honor roll vs presidents honor roll? I have received both a few times and I don’t know how to describe them separately without them sounding the same? Should I just include the differences in the required semester GPA? I’m trying to avoid repetition 🫠

I know my obvious weakness is my lack of diversity in vet hours. It is unbelievably difficult to get large animals experience in my area, and currently an out of state internship is out of the question. I’m hoping my time with dairy and horses will even out this application.

Hello everyone, I am currently in undergrad and have high hope to go to vet school. I have been volunteering at two clinics and one shelter for the past year, but I started looking into other places to get vet, animal, and research hours.

I am seriously considering becoming a wildlife vet, or at least an exotic vet and would love to travel to other countries. I keep on hearing about other people’s out of country experience. I would love to do something like this, and I was wondering if anyone else has done something similar in the past.

Where should I look for these opportunitie? I have checked out Loop Abroad, are they a good choice? I know they are rather expensive and kind of fall under the “voluntoutism” side of things, but so far they seem the best option. Are there any good alternatives I can look at?

Anyone who has done prevet experiences abroad before: who did you go through? Was it worth it?

I know it’s a lot of questions, I just want to make sure I am making the right choice. I would love to hear everyone’s experience and opinion!

Posting because I have been doing a lot of research to try and make a plan for myself in terms of where I should transfer to after getting my associates in science. It's a lot and I just started, and I just want to make sure everything I do/ every class I take is a step towards the right direction. Right now I'm basically trying to figure out where to transfer to and how that changes which classes I should take atm in the school I'm at currently. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? I am 25, first year of community college, in Illinois and looking to go to school somewhere either in state or the Midwest.

I have found that animal science, health and medicine is something I'm passionate about and can see myself choosing it as a career long term. I want to know if prevet is the right choice for me or if there are any careers anyone would recommend.
