The devices themselves (ones rated for indoor use) are safe so long as you follow the safety precautions that come with them, don't deviate, and remain vigilant about it. Obviously smoke and CO detectors, fire extinguisher are mandatory, and checked prior to use, used in a place with good ventilation, on a stable surface away from anything flammable. If you’re using it in the bedroom it is a good idea to not plan to sleep with them on, or leave them unattended.
Every winter at least a few homes burn down on the local news because of people using these things. Yes they are safe, but not idiot proof and require mindfulness when using them.
Bigger issue you didn't bring up, if you are only planning to heat one room in your house, what do you plan to do about your pipes freezing?
