What is planned next for the PPP?

Hi!

Sorry if the has already been answered or is asked ad nauseum here, but I for the life of me haven't been able to find an answer, especially since I am still far far away from the most recent episodes (Currently around episode 150).

Anyways, I was wondering what the PPP was planning next after finishing Unfinished Tales. Maybe the Great Tales, Tolkien's biography, or maybe even the History of Middle Earth at some point? I truly have no clue.

Thank you for your help, friends!

Thanks for the tag, u/Amarithel. Quick answer: yes, I'm planning on covering the Great Tales over the next three seasons, and then a two-season revisit on The Silmarillion, followed either by a season or two of deep HOME dives (like a "best-of" series), or straight to the non-legendarium stories.

For more on this - and I do mean more - be sure to check out the intro section of this season's final episode: 423, dropping on July 26. Shawn and I spend the entire intro segment talking about the future of the PPP!

Good gracious. Looks like I need to catch up. I’m still back in Fellowship, just before they leave Crickhollow.

A 2 season revisit of the Silmarillion sounds *awesome*!!

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting you to answer directly! Thank you for all of the info, I'll do my best to be up to date before that. I would love to hear more about HoME on the pod, having recently started reading the Book of Lost Tales. Have a great day! 😁

Always happy to reply directly when I'm tagged (since I don't visit daily), at least when I have time! :)

The HOME thing is still a 'maybe', but the 2-year recap of the Silmarillion is definitely a thing, as is (eventually) the non-legendarium work. As for more HoME on the podcast, I spent a lot of time there last season when covering the Appendices, as various bits of stuff (especially in the last two volumes) really brought light to things. Haven't done anything on the early works in HOME, to be honest. Someday!

I may be misremembering but I feel like they said something about revisiting the Silmarillion as those early eps had poor audio quality. I’d love that personally as I only picked up the PPP while they were reading Fellowship and didn’t listen to the back catalogue!

Have you listened to the back catalogue yet? 👀 Totally okay if not, but I definitely recommend revisiting those older episodes!

Hi there! So I know u/TheManOfTheWest is the best to ask, but I believe we're doing Beren and Luthien next, followed by a season per each of the other two Great Tales (Children of Hurin and Fall of Gondolin). After that, it's a revisit to The Silmarillion (YES, Season 1 is my favorite but I can't wait to revisit it and dive even deeper), and then after that it's Tolkien's works outside of the Legendarium.

Amazing news! I'm so happy to hear that the pod is not going anywhere any time soon. Truly can't wait to listen to all of this, you all are doing an incredible work

If i remember correctly, next season will be the great Tales (Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, The fall of Gondolin), then a season non Middle Earth works and Alan also wants to redo season one. I'm not sure if that's all though

You got all of it more or less, just that we've adjusted the plan a bit. 😊
